Analyze CVE-2026-76298 with Vani AIImpact, affected versions, exploitation status, mitigations and detection

In Splunk Enterprise search head clusters, the PostgreSQL sidecar derives its superuser password from the cluster identifier, which appears in search job logs. A user without the admin or power role can recover that password and run arbitrary operating system commands as the account running Splunk on cluster members. Only those versions on search head clusters are affected.

What to do: Upgrade Splunk Enterprise to 10.4.4 or 10.2.8. Splunk has not named a workaround.

Description · NVD

In Splunk Enterprise versions below 10.4.4 and 10.2.8, a user who does not hold the "admin" or "power" Splunk roles could derive the PostgreSQL sidecar database superuser password and run arbitrary operating system commands as the user account running Splunk Enterprise on search head cluster members. The vulnerability is possible because the PostgreSQL sidecar service derives a privileged database password from the search head cluster identifier that appears in search job logs.
