GPT 6.1 Sol: Near-Astra intelligence for a fifth of the price

Simon Willison says GPT-6.1-Sol pelican drawings look similar to other GPT-6 family results.

Simon Willison posted his pelican-riding-a-bicycle image test for OpenAI's GPT-6.1-Sol after live-blogging the DevDay keynote. He said the outputs are not notably different from pelicans produced by the broader GPT-6 family. The linked discussion presents GPT-6.1-Sol as near-Astra intelligence at about one-fifth the price, but this note includes no pricing table or formal benchmark scores.

ChatGPT now reaches 1.2 billion people every week, OpenAI says

OpenAI reports 1.2 billion weekly ChatGPT users and nears $70B annualized revenue, driven by enterprise sales and GPT-6.1-Sol pricing.

OpenAI is nearing a $70 billion annualized revenue rate, up about 70 percent since the start of Q3, driven by enterprise sales and an aggressive price war against Claude and Chinese models, including the just-launched GPT-6.1-Sol. At DevDay, OpenAI shared more than 1.2 billion weekly ChatGPT users, over 35 million weekly ChatGPT Work and Codex users, and 2.5 million businesses on its products. Anthropic's revenue rate reportedly passed $65 billion in July, may now match or exceed OpenAI's, and is preparing an IPO as early as November. A key open question is whether revenue growth can cover massive data center costs.
