City of Vicksburg, Mississippi, shuts down computers after cyberattack
Vicksburg, Mississippi shut down city computers after a reported ransomware attack, delaying utility payments.
The City of Vicksburg, Mississippi shut down internet-connected computer systems after what officials described as a ransomware attack, Mayor Willis Thompson told The Vicksburg Post. Residents may face delays paying utility bills in person, but the city said there will be no penalties or service terminations while systems are offline. Its water and gas office serves more than 10,000 accounts, and emergency response and utility service were reported to continue. No ransomware group had claimed responsibility, and it was unclear whether data was encrypted or officials were describing only a ransom demand.
