Cyber exec arrested in case allegedly tied to ShinyHunters hackers
Canadian cyber executive Edward Dubrovsky was arrested on extortion charges allegedly tied to ShinyHunters.
Edward Dubrovsky, 54, a Canadian cybersecurity executive formerly associated with CYPFER and CyberSteward, was arrested in Pennsylvania and transferred to the Eastern District of Texas. Sealed charges include conspiracy to threaten the confidentiality of information in order to extort money and Hobbs Act extortion. Reports link the arrest to the FBI crackdown on ShinyHunters, including an FBI jobs-portal hack, though the FBI has not publicly confirmed his role. The FBI says ShinyHunters and associates breached more than 140 organizations and collected over $70 million in the past year.
