The Trump administration and Justice Department warned that people whose public activity, including demonstrations, furthers a foreign power's goals could face criminal liability unless they notify the government. President Trump posted that opposition to AI and data centers is a China-linked conspiracy. Senate Intelligence Committee chairman Tom Cotton asked DOJ to investigate alleged CCP influence and cited Neville Roy Singham under the Foreign Agents Registration Act, while House Republicans requested an FBI briefing. Figures including David Sacks have argued that domestic resistance to data centers helps China in the AI race.
