Ransomware attack disrupts Japan's IDCF Cloud used by govt clients
Ransomware disrupted IDC Frontier's IDCF Cloud in eastern Japan, affecting 495 companies and local governments.
IDC Frontier, a SoftBank Group subsidiary, said a ransomware attack beginning October 7 at 3:40 a.m. local time forced it to isolate IDCF Cloud systems in East Japan Region 1. The company says the outage affects 495 companies and local governments using its infrastructure-as-a-service platform. A console message attributed to the attacker claimed 225 databases totaling 3.6 PB were encrypted, 239 hypervisors reached, 16,000 VM disks sealed, and 554,153 snapshots wiped; IDC Frontier has not confirmed that scope. Nissui Logistics separately reported an outage at a third-party data center, and any connection remains unclear.
