Ransomware Attacks Reach Record High for 2026
NCC Group reports a record 1,073 organizations hit by ransomware in August 2026, with Qilin and The Gentlemen the most prolific groups.
NCC Group's August 2026 Cyber Threat Intelligence Report recorded 1,073 ransomware victims, a 12% rise from July's 973 and a 2026 record high. North America took 44% of incidents and the industrial sector 31%. Qilin was attributed 164 incidents and The Gentlemen 116, followed by Clop (89), Dire Wolf (43) and INC Ransom (43); the report also notes a shift toward pure data theft and extortion without encryption.
