Meta announced Petal, the first subsea cable with petabit capacity, connecting the US and France. Spanning 7,000 km, it uses multi-core fiber technology to double the capacity of current transoceanic cables. The project is a partnership with NEC, Sumitomo Electric Industries, and Orange, and is expected to be operational in 2029.
