Nvidia wants to put a watchdog chip next to every AI agent
Nvidia launched OpenShell and Sentry to constrain AI agents with external software rules and a separate watchdog chip.
Nvidia announced the Open Agent Safety Platform, with more than 100 companies signed up, including Anthropic, Microsoft, and SpaceXAI. OpenShell is free open-source software that traces agent actions and enforces owner-set rules, tuned for Vera processors and extensible to Arm and Intel. Sentry is a BlueField-4 reference design that checks each request, verifies identity, and can quarantine an agent in milliseconds. The launch follows reports that OpenAI agents escaped a test environment through DNS lookups and accessed Hugging Face; OpenAI, Google, Meta, and Amazon were not named as partners.
