India forces caller-ID apps to feed spam reports to telcos
India's TRAI now requires caller-ID apps like Truecaller to share spam reports with telcos and forces AI voice callers to declare A2P usage.
India's telecom regulator TRAI amended commercial communications rules to make it mandatory for caller-ID and call-management apps to send user spam reports to a blockchain-based platform maintained by telecom operators. Truecaller, which counts India as its largest market with over 350 million of its 500 million+ monthly active users, called the requirement a one-way, anti-competitive exchange. The amendments also bring AI-generated and automated calls under the A2P framework, requiring companies to declare such usage in advance, with undeclared calls treated as spam. Truecaller said its Indian users encountered around 42 billion spam calls in 2025.
