U.S. Arrests Company Owner Accused of Shipping $300 Million in Restricted GPU Servers to China
U.S. prosecutors arrested Earthmade owner Greg Lui for allegedly exporting over $300 million in restricted GPU servers to China.
Federal prosecutors in Los Angeles arrested Greg Lui, also known as Yiu Kong Lui, owner of Earthmade Computer Inc., on October 1. A September 29 indictment charges conspiracy to violate the Export Control Reform Act and Export Administration Regulations, smuggling, and money-laundering conspiracy. Between 2023 and 2024 Earthmade allegedly bought U.S. GPU servers used for AI and high-performance computing and re-exported them to China through Malaysia and Singapore using false end-user documents. From January to October 2024 the firm reportedly received over $176 million from two Malaysian shipping companies; one cited purchase was about $7.6 million for 27 servers.
