Toyota claims plan for 400,000 factory robots won’t replace human workers
Toyota plans to invest $6.42 billion a year from 2028 to deploy 400,000 factory robots.
Toyota Motor group says that from 2028 it will invest about $6.42 billion a year to deploy 150,000 robots in its own auto plants and 250,000 at group facilities that make components and materials. Wheeled ELEY humanoids are already on lines, with workers using finger jigs to teach precise hand tasks. Executive Hiroki Nakajima said the goal is coexistence with Toyota's 18,000 veteran workers across 60 factories, not direct replacement. The report cites 2024 industrial-robot figures of 2 million in China, 450,500 in Japan, 34,200 in the United States, and 30,600 in South Korea.
