Chinese spies impersonate White House, Anthropic figures to phish AI policy experts
China-aligned TA419 phished US AI policy experts by impersonating White House and Anthropic figures.
Proofpoint says China-aligned TA419 ran credential-phishing campaigns in July 2026 against US AI policy experts, impersonating former White House OSTP official Lynne Edwards Parker and economist Heidi Crebo-Rediker. In February 2026 the group posed as a senior Anthropic employee with a lure about military use of Claude. Benign first emails asked targets to join a fictitious advisory committee; replies led through Cloudflare Turnstile to a fake OneDrive page using Frameless BitB that relayed passwords and MFA codes to Microsoft and stole session cookies. Domains were typically registered at NameSilo and sometimes impersonated groups such as the Heritage Foundation.
