Japan confirms arrest of Russian Qilin operative, extradition to Germany
Japan arrested a 28-year-old Russian Qilin suspect in Osaka and extradited him to Germany.
Japan’s National Police Agency confirmed the arrest and extradition of a 28-year-old Russian national accused of involvement with the Qilin ransomware gang. Germany issued the warrant over an alleged ransomware attack on a German company. Police arrested him at an Osaka hotel in May after learning he planned to vacation in Japan, and extradited him in June. Qilin has claimed attacks including Die Linke, Asahi, Palau, and the U.S. ATF, and researchers ranked it the second most active ransomware gang in July with 127 reported attacks.
