USN-8728-2: Linux kernel (Azure) vulnerabilities
Ubuntu patches Azure Linux kernel flaws, including local privilege-escalation issues on Arm and AMD Zen 2.
Ubuntu published USN-8728-2 for Linux kernel packages used on Azure. CVE-2025-10263 involves Arm processors completing a broadcast TLB invalidation before related memory writes are globally observed, which a local attacker might use to write memory after permissions were revoked. CVE-2025-54518 concerns incomplete isolation of shared resources in the operation cache on some AMD Zen 2 processors, potentially allowing local privilege escalation. The notice also refers to additional kernel issues without naming them in the provided text.
- USN-8728-2 patches the Azure Linux kernel.
- CVE-2025-10263: Arm TLB invalidation race may allow local memory writes after revocation.
- CVE-2025-54518: AMD Zen 2 operation-cache isolation flaw may enable local privilege escalation.
- No exploitation in the wild is stated.

It was discovered that some Arm processors could complete a broadcast translation lookaside buffer (TLB) invalidation before memory writes made through the invalidated translation were globally observed. A local attacker could possibly use this to write to memory after permission to do so had been revoked, bypassing memory protections or escalating privileges. (CVE-2025-10263) It was discovered that some AMD Zen 2 processors did not properly isolate shared resources in the operation cache. A local attacker could possibly use this issue to corrupt instructions executed at a higher privilege level, resulting in privilege escalation. (CVE-2025-54518) Several security issues were discovered in…
