Red Lion Controls N-Tron 700 Series
CISA says Red Lion N-Tron 700 switches through firmware 3.11.0 have hardcoded credentials and authentication flaws.
CISA advisory ICSA-26-281-01 covers seven vulnerabilities in Red Lion Controls N-Tron 700 Series switches running firmware 3.11.0 or earlier and bootloader 2.0.6.1 or earlier. Default factory administrator credentials persist, and usernames and passwords are stored in plaintext or with weak encryption; an unauthenticated SNMP request can trigger a TFTP export of the configuration. Exploitation could yield administrative access to view, edit, and upload configuration, and a specific URL can force repeated reboots. Red Lion and HMS Networks recommend firmware 3.11.1 or later, plus restricting SNMP and the web interface.
- Factory administrator credentials stay enabled after other admin accounts are configured.
- Credentials are stored in plaintext or with weak encryption inside configuration files.
- Unauthenticated SNMP can start a TFTP export of the configuration.
- A crafted URL can reboot the switch repeatedly; firmware 3.11.1 is the fix.

Summary
Successful exploitation of these vulnerabilities could allow a malicious user to access the device and gain administrative access. This access would allow the user to view, edit, and upload configuration files. Further, a malicious user can cause the switch to reboot by navigating to a specific URL on the device. This action can be scripted on the malicious user's local machine to cause continuous rebooting of the switch.

CVE-2026-39460
Usernames and passwords, including the default factory credentials, are stored in plaintext within the configuration file. With administrator rights, the configuration file can be viewed through the CLI or they can be exported from the device through a TFTP transfer from the web interface. A TFTP transfer can be initiated through SNMP which does not require authentication.

Recommended Practices
CISA recommends users take defensive measures to minimize the risk of exploitation of these vulnerabilities.
- Minimize network exposure for all control system devices and/or systems, ensuring they are not accessible from the internet.
- Locate control system networks and remote devices behind firewalls and isolating them from business networks.
- When remote access is required, use more secure methods, such as Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), recognizing VPNs may have vulnerabilities and should be updated to the most current version available. Also recognize VPN is only as secure as the connected devices.
CISA reminds organizations to perform proper impact analysis and risk assessment prior to deploying defensive measures.
CISA also provides a section for control systems security recommended practices on the ICS webpage on cisa.gov/ics. Several CISA products detailing cyber defense best practices are available for reading and download, including Improving Industrial Control Systems Cybersecurity with Defense-in-Depth Strategies.
CISA encourages organizations to implement recommended cybersecurity strategies for proactive defense of ICS assets.
Additional mitigation guidance and recommended practices are publicly available on the ICS webpage at cisa.gov/ics in the technical information paper, ICS-TIP-12-146-01B--Targeted Cyber Intrusion Detection and Mitigation Strategies.
Organizations observing suspected malicious activity should follow established internal procedures and report findings to CISA for tracking and correlation against other incidents.
CISA also recommends users take the following measures to protect themselves from social engineering attacks:
- Do not click web links or open attachments in unsolicited email messages.
- Refer to Recognizing and Avoiding Email Scams for more information on avoiding email scams.
- Refer to Avoiding Social Engineering and Phishing Attacks for more information on social engineering attacks.
No known public exploitation specifically targeting these vulnerabilities has been reported to CISA at this time.
