StepAudio 3 Gen Technical Report

StepAudio 3 Gen unifies TTS, voice design, music, and sound effects via discrete autoregressive modeling over RVQ tokens.

StepAudio 3 Gen is a general-purpose audio generation model covering zero-shot TTS, voice design, vocal generation, sound effects, music, vibe speech, and mixed audio in one framework. It uses discrete autoregressive modeling over residual vector quantization (RVQ) tokens rather than the diffusion Transformer paradigm, with a StepAudio Tokenizer representing audio at 12.5 Hz in a shared 16x2048 residual code space. Key design principles include interference-aware progressive pretraining, an RVQ Adaptor for multi-codebook acoustic representations, and shared discrete autoregressive modeling. The model reports state-of-the-art performance on TTS and voice design while retaining strong generation across speech, vocals, sound effects, and music.

CareMirror: Bringing Caregiver Wellbeing into the Dementia Care Ecosystem

Interview study with 14 dementia caregivers probes CareMirror wellbeing ecosystem, revealing demands for control over clinical sharing and AI boundaries.

CareMirror is an envisioned caregiver wellbeing ecosystem with interconnected caregiver- and clinician-facing interfaces for longitudinal reflection, personalized support, and caregiver-controlled sharing. Semi-structured interviews with 14 family caregivers used the system as a design probe. Caregivers valued wellbeing attention and clinical visibility but found repeated reflection burdensome and worried automatic clinical sharing would inhibit candid disclosure, expecting AI to support rather than replace caregiver and clinician judgment.

Building and Evaluating Fixed-Voice Thai TTS from Synthetic Speech

Researchers distill a compact 82M-parameter Thai TTS from synthetic OmniVoice data, enabling on-device fixed-voice synthesis without reference audio.

The paper uses a large voice-cloning model (OmniVoice) as a synthetic data source to train Wayu-Paxa-TTS-Edge, an 82M-parameter fixed-voice Thai TTS student. The model achieves 68.2% Challenge-Set Keyword Accuracy (85.5% of Gemini 3.1), 91.4% pause precision, and CERs of 3.7% on Thai and 1.1% on English. It outperforms its teacher on pause placement and is open-sourced with its evaluation framework.

MP-Bench: Evaluating Voice Agents as a Multiparty Conversation Participant

MP-Bench is the first benchmark for voice agents in multiparty conversations, finding real-time agents near chance on turn-taking.

MP-Bench is the first benchmark designed to objectively evaluate conversational speech systems as active participants in multi-party conversations. It assesses agents on turn-taking awareness and response appropriateness, with comprehension-based question-answering as a complementary evaluation. Benchmarking 12 voice agents shows real-time agents score at or below 22% on multiparty comprehension and remain near chance on multiparty turn-taking.
