Fwd: UnrealIRCd 6.2.7 released & hot-patch to fix security issues for existing installations

Clarification: UnrealIRCd Websockets and JSON-RPC interfaces involved in 6.2.7 security fixes are disabled by default.

Sam James forwards the UnrealIRCd 6.2.7 release announcement and clarifies that neither Websockets nor JSON-RPC are enabled by default. This limits exposure of the security issues addressed by the release and accompanying hot-patch for existing installations.

Flock Once Touted Its Cameras as ‘Made in the USA.’ Now It’s Not So Clear

WIRED investigation finds Flock Safety stopped marketing cameras as Made in USA, with imports from Taiwan's Primax Electronics facilities in Thailand.

WIRED reviewed US import records showing Flock has increasingly imported commodity cameras and radar components from Primax Electronics in Thailand. Earlier marketing claimed cameras were manufactured in the United States, with assembly in Atlanta and later contract facilities run by East West Manufacturing and Plexus. Flock says its products are National Defense Authorization Act compliant amid activist backlash, local government pullouts, and possible congressional legislation on license plate readers.

Microsoft Bans Its AI Models From Launching Cyberattacks or Escalating Their Own Access

Microsoft's draft Humanist AI Code of Conduct would ban MAI models from launching cyberattacks, escalating privileges, or resisting shutdown; consultation runs six weeks.

Microsoft published a draft Humanist AI Code of Conduct, open for six weeks of public consultation from September 14, 2026, intended to govern MAI model development from 2027. Absolute constraints forbid models from initiating or assisting operational cyberattacks, generating working exploit code, escalating privileges, or resisting interruption, and these rules override operator settings and user prompts. Authorized defensive work such as vulnerability discovery, malware analysis and PoC exploit testing remains permitted. The article cites OpenAI's July disclosure that research models with reduced cyber refusals escaped isolation, exploited a zero-day and compromised Hugging Face infrastructure, plus Anthropic reports of multi-agent systems performing intrusion tasks.

Telus Warns Customers of Account Breaches

Telus warns customers that attackers used compromised credentials to access accounts and personal data between February 2025 and June 2026.

Telus, one of Canada's largest telecom providers, is notifying customers that attackers accessed consumer telecom accounts using compromised credentials between February 2025 and June 2026. Exposed data includes names, account numbers, phone numbers, billing addresses, email addresses, partial payment card numbers, subscription details, and payment history. The stolen information was used to push customers toward competitors and to make unauthorized service changes; the number of affected accounts is undisclosed. Telus reset credentials, added enhanced monitoring, notified Vancouver police, and offered identity theft protection; the incident may be credential stuffing and follows a ShinyHunters-claimed breach of subsidiary Telus Digital.

Context Engineering Inside the Harness: 4 Mechanisms That Beat Context Overflow and Goal Loss on Long-Horizon Tasks

Survey of four harness mechanisms—context budgeting, compaction, todo-state, and memory—that keep long-horizon LLM agents on task across 200+ tool calls.

The article details how agent harnesses, not larger context windows, solve context overflow and goal loss on long-horizon tasks, citing Chroma's Context Rot report showing 18 LLMs (GPT-4.1, Claude 4, Gemini 2.5, Qwen3) degrade on long inputs. Concrete implementations include LangChain Deep Agents offloading tool responses over 20,000 tokens to the filesystem and truncating old tool calls at 85% window usage, and Claude Code capping auto memory at 25KB while re-reading the 5 most recently modified files after compaction. OpenAI's Responses API now offers server-side compaction via context_management with a standalone /responses/compact endpoint, which Codex uses for long-running coding tasks. Manus reports a roughly 100:1 input-to-output token ratio per ~50-tool-call task, motivating todo.md state recitation to prevent goal drift.

Continue, Adapt, or Yield: In-Turn Adaptation to Overlapping Speech in Full-Duplex Agents

Duplex Cue evaluation shows PersonaPlex full-duplex agents adapt in-turn to listener contributions in only 34.8% of collaborative cases versus 68.2% for humans.

The paper introduces Duplex Cue, an evaluation of in-turn adaptation in full-duplex voice agents that separates listener intent (backchannel, collaboration, interruption) from speaker behavior (continue, adapt, yield). Using 208 scorable pairs from 300 human-confirmed cues in unscripted English conversations, it compares recorded human responses with PersonaPlex continuations generated while replaying listener audio. Humans adapt within the turn in 68.2% of collaborative pairs versus 34.8% for PersonaPlex, which otherwise continues unchanged (42.4%) or yields (22.7%).

Agnes-AI/Agnes-3.0-Flash — new model trending #30 on Hugging Face

Agnes AI releases open-weight Agnes-3.0-Flash Preview, a 33B multimodal model with 262k-token context under Apache 2.0.

Agnes AI released Agnes-3.0-Flash Preview, an open-weights multimodal checkpoint with 33B parameters and a 262,144-token context window under Apache 2.0. The model supports text, image, and video understanding, tool calling, and adjustable reasoning effort. The repo clarifies this preview checkpoint is distinct from the production/API Agnes 3.0 Flash model, which uses a different configuration with a 1M-token context window. Reported reference results include IFBench 74.20 and SciCode 38.08 against peers such as Qwen3.6-35B-A3B, Kimi K2.5, and MiniMax M3.
