Anthropic exposed a network of roughly 28 AI-driven dating apps using autonomous personas and gig workers to defraud paying users.

Anthropic threat intelligence uncovered a fraud network of around 28 dating apps after a prepaid account sent over 100,000 Claude API requests daily, with most chats run by autonomous AI personas and no human agent. Researchers Matthew Gore-Kormanik and Anthropic's Chris Cronbaugh documented apps including Dora, Romi, and Doni, which monetize conversations via coins; gig workers were hired only to pass liveness checks and select pregenerated replies. An operations manual written in Chinese was found inside the Doni app, and Anthropic published findings in its September 2026 AI misuse report.

When Agents Look Like Beacons: NIDS Evasion by Model Context Protocol Traffic

Research shows Model Context Protocol agent traffic structurally resembles C2 beaconing and evades Suricata signatures and RITA behavioral scoring in testbeds.

An arXiv study demonstrates that Model Context Protocol (MCP) JSON-RPC traffic over Streamable HTTP mimics the polling patterns of C2 frameworks like Cobalt Strike and is not flagged as anomalous by standard enterprise defenses. In a Docker testbed with eleven traffic profiles across three TLS conditions, Suricata with the Emerging Threats Open ruleset produced near-zero alerts and RITA assigned a consistent 0.0 beacon score, regardless of jitter or TLS inspection. The authors propose an agent-native network indication standard using Agent-Native ALPN and out-of-band headers.

NightEagle Hackers Target Russian Companies Using GhostContainer Backdoor

Kaspersky links NightEagle (APT-Q-95) intrusions in Russia to stolen VPN credentials, the GhostContainer Exchange backdoor, BlueKeep exploitation, and covert tunneling for espionage.

Kaspersky's Global Emergency Response Team attributes new intrusions against Russian companies to NightEagle (APT-Q-95), active since at least 2023 and previously focused on Asian organizations. The group uses valid VPN credentials, deploys the .NET-based GhostContainer backdoor on Microsoft Exchange servers, and tunnels RDP via Microsoft Dev Tunnels and rdp2tcp. In one incident operators exploited BlueKeep (CVE-2019-0708) to create an administrator account, and they performed DCSync replication against Active Directory to harvest domain password hashes. GhostContainer reuses code from Neo-reGeorg, ExchangeCmdPy.py (CVE-2020-0688), and ysoserial, and tampers with AMSI and Windows event logging to evade detection.

NightEagle Hackers Abuse Microsoft Dev Tunnels and GhostContainer to Breach Russian Companies

Initial access uses valid VPN credentials, followed by the .NET GhostContainer backdoor on Microsoft Exchange servers, which abuses ASP.NET view state injection, disables AMSI and event logging, and proxies traffic. Operators moved laterally via RDP, abused Microsoft Dev Tunnels with rdp2tcp, used Impacket atexec and netsh portproxy, and in one case exploited BlueKeep (CVE-2019-0708) to create admin accounts and attempt DCSync.

Hackers reveal how Flock cameras really track cars and people

Hackers tore down a Flock Safety camera, dumped its storage, recovered an encryption key, and revealed its software detects people as well as vehicles.

Hackers from a collective calling itself stegan0gram removed a Flock Safety camera from service, made a near-complete copy of its storage, and recovered an encryption key stored on the device that unlocked thousands of vehicle-detection videos, sharing the files with 404 Media, WIRED, and Distributed Denial of Secrets. Analysis of about 21 days of logs shows more than a million images, roughly 28 photos per passing vehicle, and Flock-built apps that detect people, bicycles, and even bumper stickers, while plate inference happens on Flock's servers. Flock had previously downplayed early-2025 root-access research by Jon Gaines, and records from Alpharetta, Georgia were searchable by over 2,000 agencies via Flock's national network.

FamousSparrow Exploits Public-Facing Exchange Servers to Deploy SparroWocky Backdoor

ESET attributes a new SparroWocky backdoor to espionage group FamousSparrow, deployed via exploited internet-facing Exchange servers across Latin American governments.

ESET's Welivesecurity team reports FamousSparrow gained initial access by exploiting publicly reachable Microsoft Exchange servers, with roughly 90 percent of targets since mid-2025 in Latin America, including governments in Argentina, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico, and Venezuela. The group's new modular C-language backdoor SparroWocky replaces SparrowDoor and uses a three-part loader: a legitimate executable, a malicious DLL side-loaded in memory, and an encrypted payload. It persists via Windows services or Registry Run keys, supports screenshots, file operations, TCP proxying, Beacon Object Files, TLS/RC4-encrypted C2, and anti-forensics such as call-stack spoofing. IOCs including loader SHA-1 hashes and C2 IP addresses were published.

FamousSparrow Deploys New SparroWocky Backdoor Against Latin American Governments

China-aligned APT FamousSparrow deployed a new modular backdoor, SparroWocky, against government entities across eight Latin American countries since August 2025, ESET reports.

ESET reports that China-aligned threat actor FamousSparrow replaced its SparrowDoor implant with SparroWocky, a distinct modular C++ backdoor active against governments in Argentina, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico, and Venezuela. Around 90% of the group's targets from mid-2025 into 2026 were in Latin America, which ESET links to regional competition over US influence. The backdoor arrives via a three-component DLL side-loading chain, persists through a Windows service (ProcAuditManager) or Run keys (SnapCart), captures screenshots, and exfiltrates RC4-encrypted data over TLS C2 on ports 443 and 8080. It supports in-memory Beacon Object File execution, API hashing, and SilentMoonwalk-style call-stack spoofing; IOCs for three C2 servers were released.

Cloudflare's Page Shield ML detected four client-side JavaScript operations (eight payloads) in live traffic on online storefronts, enabling affiliate commission hijacking, clickless affiliate theft via hidden iframes, user tracking with a remote-code backdoor, and cloaking of paid mobile visitors. Seven of the eight payloads were absent from VirusTotal and URLScan returned no malicious verdict for any, including a Lnkr-family payload indexed unclassified for roughly 2.5 years. Detection relies on a graph neural network over JavaScript syntax trees, an LLM second opinion on Workers AI, and a frontier-model ensemble voting across benign, magecart, other malware, and cryptomining labels.

Hacking Cat exploits Exchange flaws including CVE-2021-26855 and CVE-2026-42897 to deliver the Gorilla RAT and multiple Monkey ransomware variants written in Rust, .NET, C++, and Golang targeting Windows, Linux, and VMware ESXi, with some variants acting as wipers that never store the encryption key.

The skb that wasn't freed - the Fragnesia primitive via Open vSwitch

Doyensec details CVE-2026-90049 in Open vSwitch, enabling deterministic Linux kernel local privilege escalation on default major distribution installs.

Doyensec reports that the Open vSwitch datapath strips the SKBFL_SHARED_FRAG flag from packets it is still forwarding, allowing an in-place decrypt to write attacker-chosen bytes into root-owned page cache — a Dirty COW-class primitive that re-opens the Fragnesia bug family. The issues are tracked as CVE-2026-90049, CVE-2026-89487, and CVE-2026-80977, and were reported to the kernel security team with fixes coordinated alongside OVS maintainers. A deterministic local privilege escalation works on default installs of Arch, Fedora, Debian, Amazon Linux, and RHEL where unprivileged user namespaces and openvswitch auto-loading are enabled; the fix landed in mainline and shipped in stable on 09/04/2026. The write technique builds on the earlier Fragnesia and Dirty Frag bugs, including CVE-2026-43284 and CVE-2026-43500.
