Agent-net Open Sources Webagent: A Go Harness That Turns Any Website into a Guarded AI Agent

Agent-net open-sourced Webagent, a Go harness turning websites into AI agents with code-enforced guardrails wrapping every tool call.

Agent-net released Webagent under Apache 2.0, a Go framework where a business fills in a declarative JSON spec, picks one provider for each of nine pluggable slots (retrieval, memory, guardrail, channel, secrets, presenter, model, action, observability), and runs webagent serve. Every tool the agent holds is wrapped by action.Guard so the chosen guardrail executes before any action runs and the model cannot bypass it. Live capabilities include OpenRouter/gateway LLM brains, MCP tools over Streamable HTTP, and Slack, WhatsApp, and HTTP channels; browser actions, OAuth-gated MCP, OTel export, and AgentNet identity/billing are not yet built. The project is v0 with a deferred-hardening list and cites arXiv 2511.19477 on an 85% versus 50% task-success gap attributed to architecture over model capability.

AI-Built Exploit and Sign-In Flaw Opened Path to Internal OpenAI Code

Researchers chained a libheif RCE in Discourse with an over-privileged OpenAI forum sign-in token flaw to take over ChatGPT and Codex accounts.

Hacktron researchers used Claude Opus 4.8 and Opus 5 to weaponize an unpatched libheif decoding flaw reached through Discourse's HEIC/HEIF handling on community.openai.com, achieving remote code execution. The upstream libheif fix landed a year earlier but was never treated as a security issue, so no CVE was assigned. Chained with OpenAI-side sign-in tokens carrying excessive permissions, the researchers took over an employee's Codex-linked account and opened a pull request in an internal OpenAI GitHub repository. OpenAI narrowed token permissions and revoked sessions roughly 14 hours after the Bugcrowd report, paying a $6,500 bounty, while Discourse patched within two days and added image-processing sandboxing.

A heap overflow and SSO misconfiguration to compromise OpenAI internal repos

Hacktron researchers chained a libheif heap overflow in Discourse with an OpenAI SSO flaw to take over employee ChatGPT/Codex accounts and access internal repositories.

On July 25, 2026, Hacktron researchers chained a heap buffer overflow in libheif 1.19.7/1.19.8 (missing Debian security backports, upstream fix never assigned a CVE), reached through Discourse image uploads processed by ImageMagick, to gain remote code execution on community.openai.com. Combined with an SSO identity misconfiguration in the 'Sign in with OpenAI' flow, they took over employees' ChatGPT/Codex accounts with connected GitHub, Slack, and email access, and proved it by opening PR #1186742 in OpenAI's internal openai/openai monorepo. They reported the issues for coordinated patching, received a $6,500 bounty from OpenAI, and Debian shipped fixed libheif packages on August 8, 2026. The team used Claude Opus 4.8 and Claude Opus 5 to locate the missing backport and autonomously develop working x86-64/ARM64 exploits.

Inside ‘Project Lily’: The Humans Reading Your ChatGPT Chats

404 Media reveals OpenAI's 'Project Lily' has hundreds of contractors reading real ChatGPT user prompts, exposing sensitive personal data despite privacy filters.

404 Media reports that OpenAI employs hundreds of contractors who read real ChatGPT user prompts, including whole conversations, to rate and critique the chatbot's responses across a user base of over 900 million. Prompts are anonymized and run through OpenAI's Privacy Filter model, but the company acknowledged sensitive personal details can still reach reviewers, and 'user memories summaries' may reveal a user's location and personal context. The review work includes training ChatGPT to be less sycophantic and to stop anthropomorphizing itself, following lawsuits linking the sycophantic 4o model to multiple suicides. Anthropic confirmed it also uses human review to improve its models, and OpenAI's 'improve the model for everyone' data-sharing setting is on by default for free, Plus, and Pro users.

Securing Claude Code: The New Compliance API, Local Visibility, and Identity Governance

Anthropic's new Compliance API endpoints expose Claude Code local session transcripts, highlighting governance gaps for endpoint AI agents.

Anthropic added local session transcript endpoints to its Compliance API on August 11, 2026, giving security teams visibility into prompts, bash commands, file operations, and MCP commands run by Claude Code harnesses on endpoints. The article argues local harnesses break the classic shared-responsibility model, citing Token Security data that 68.6% of discovered AI agents run on endpoints, and a Cloud Security Alliance survey of 418 IT and security professionals in which 82% found an unknown agent within the past year. It outlines three governance layers: Anthropic managed settings as a policy baseline, the Compliance API for cloud-visible transcripts, and endpoint telemetry to connect agent activity to identity, credentials, and permissions.

[AINews] 10% worse, 100x cheaper, 10000x faster: Why Simulation is taking over

Latent Space argues AI training pipeline stages—rewards, data, teachers, curricula, environments—are flipping from human-made to model-made simulation.

Latent Space's AINews essay traces how each component of AI training has turned synthetic since 2022: reward models (InstructGPT, RLAIF), synthetic pretraining data (Microsoft Phi, NVIDIA Nemotron-4 340B), model teachers (Alpaca, DeepSeek-R1 distillation), and self-generated curricula (Self-Rewarding Language Models, SPIN). In 2026 it highlights Karpathy's autoresearch loop—700 experiments yielding 20 kept improvements, cutting GPT-2 training time from 2.02 to 1.80 hours—and Z.ai's GLM-5.3 fully synthetic RL environment, judging, and verification stack. It frames these shifts as 'simulation': 10% worse but 100x cheaper and 10,000x faster than human equivalents.

Hackers Can Turn Vulnerable LiteLLM AI Gateways Into Root Access and Cloud Credential Theft

Wiz found multiple LiteLLM AI gateway flaws, including a CVE-2026-59822 MCP auth bypass added to CISA KEV, enabling root code execution and cloud credential theft.

An internet scan of 3,074 exposed LiteLLM instances found 294 (9.6%) accepting the default sk-1234 master key and 191 (6.2%) requiring no authentication. CVE-2026-59822 lets a single-character Bearer token establish a valid MCP session via an OAuth2 fallback in versions before 1.84.0; the flaw is in CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog. CVE-2026-59821 allows Python code execution as root in the gateway container via unsanitized Custom Code Guardrails registration before 1.82.0-stable, and CVE-2026-35029 permits config changes leading to RCE and admin takeover. Admin access plus pass-through endpoints can reach cloud metadata services to steal IAM credentials.

Product showcase: GitGuardian Honeytoken catches credential theft as it happens

GitGuardian now deploys honeytoken decoy AWS credentials across developer fleets via MDM, generating high-fidelity alerts when infostealers test stolen credentials.

GitGuardian extended its honeytoken platform so decoy AWS credentials can deploy fleet-wide to developer laptops through existing MDM tooling, with deleted decoys automatically replaced at the next sync. When a harvester tests a decoy, the platform logs the API call in the controlling AWS account and raises an incident naming the source machine and file, routed via email, Slack, Teams, ServiceNow, or webhooks. The capability responds to infostealers such as Shai-Hulud that scan entire filesystems and validate stolen credentials within seconds. GitGuardian is building decoys for Kubernetes and package registry credentials using random, structure-free identifiers that resist detection.

Wiz found LiteLLM auth bypass (CVE-2026-59822) and post-auth RCE (CVE-2026-59821) chainable to cloud compromise; the bypass is in CISA KEV with in-the-wild exploitation.

Wiz scanned roughly 3,074 internet-facing LiteLLM deployments and found 9.6% accepted the default master key sk-1234 or required no authentication, making post-auth attacks effectively pre-auth. The MCP endpoint accepts any Bearer token and grants a valid session (CVE-2026-59822), confirmed exploited in the wild via honeypots and added to CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog. Custom code guardrails allow post-auth root-level RCE via exec(compile(...)) Four agent roles map, fingerprint, attack, and validate web applications, with claims of up to 10x coverage over conventional pentesting due to pre-existing site models. Results are delivered with reproduction steps and coverage maps, and integrate via REST API, CI/CD triggers, and Slack. This syndicated CyberNewswire press release duplicates the vendor announcement.

The VMs Powering Mobile Agents (Instinct, Claude Code)

A teardown reveals Claude Code runs in Firecracker microVMs with a Rust PID 1 and MITM'd egress, while Instinct rents E2B sandboxes with git-based memory.

The author inspects the virtual machines hosting cloud agents: Claude Code runs in a Firecracker microVM with a custom Rust init (process_api) as PID 1, a 324 MB Bun harness on a read-only disk, and 443-only MITM'd SSE egress to api.anthropic.com with host-rotated OAuth tokens and no inbound access. Instinct rents E2B sandbox-as-a-service Firecracker microVMs (Ubuntu 22.04, 2 vCPU, 1.9 GB RAM) where agent memory is a git repo of Markdown committed by the agent and pushed to S3 as a single bundle, using short-lived STS credentials. Both platforms rely on Firecracker, differing mainly in fleet operator and guest boot configuration.
