MSPs say nearly half their customers rely on them for CISO services

Sophos survey finds MSPs act as CISOs for an average 46% of customers, mostly with partial compliance offerings and fragmented manual reporting.

A Sophos survey found MSPs estimate that 46% of their customers rely on them to act as CISOs, and most providers deliver only four to six of seven measured compliance services. More than half say they manage customers' full compliance programs, while compliance requirements influence roughly half of customers' security purchases. Nearly nine in ten providers use software, but most juggle multiple tools that cannot feed a central reporting platform, forcing staff to combine data manually. Providers estimated a unified platform would cut time spent on posture, compliance and reporting by about half; Sophos sells CISO Advantage via its Sophos Fusion system for this work.

τ^τ-Bench: An Environment for End-To-End, Realistic Agent Construction

New τ^τ-bench tasks coding agents with building deployable customer-service agents; best config, Claude Opus 5, passes only 23.9% of simulations.

Researchers introduce τ^τ-bench, an end-to-end benchmark where a developer agent must build a complete customer-service agent from real business records, a client with requirements, a production API, an inherited codebase, and cost/model limits, then is scored by deploying it against held-out simulated users. Across 53 tasks in four domains, the strongest configuration, Claude Opus 5 under Claude Code, passes just 23.9% of evaluation simulations versus an 82.2% expert-authored reference ceiling. Failure modes mirror those of human developers: shallow queries instead of deep record comprehension, almost no client communication, and shipping the first architecture that runs rather than experimenting.

Op-ed argues the CISO role is overloaded and advocates elevating a business-first Chief Security Officer above it.

The author contends that business-alignment failures in cybersecurity are structural rather than communication problems, with CISOs expected to act simultaneously as technologists, strategists, risk executives, and board advisers. The piece proposes a distinct Chief Security Officer role focused on enterprise protection, business continuity, and cross-functional decision authority, with the CISO retaining technical cybersecurity responsibility and potentially reporting to the CSO. It argues this model would give executive ownership of business protection while preserving technical depth.

CISA Warns of N-able N-central RCE Vulnerability Exploited in the Wild

CISA added CVE-2026-86218, a CVSS 10.0 unauthenticated RCE in N-able N-central RMM, to its KEV catalog; on-premises admins must patch to 2026.3.1.14.

CISA added CVE-2026-86218, a CVSS 10.0 static code injection (CWE-96) enabling unauthenticated RCE in N-able N-central, to the Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog on September 8, 2026. The flaw affects all on-premises builds before 2026.3.1.14 across the 2025.4 through 2026.3 release lines; N-able shipped Hotfix 4 for 2026.3 on September 5-6, 2026. Huntress research indicates at least one customer's N-central instance was compromised on September 4, and federal civilian agencies must mitigate by September 11 under BOD 26-04. Hosted environments were patched server-side, but a compromised RMM server can serve as a single point of entry into entire MSP client bases.

Back-to-back N-able bugs send admins on a patching spree

CVE-2026-86218, a CVSS 10.0 pre-auth RCE in N-able N-central, is being exploited in the wild; Hotfix 4 mitigates it immediately.

N-able disclosed CVE-2026-86218 on September 6, a pre-authentication remote code execution flaw with CVSS 10.0 in its N-central RMM platform, and both N-able and Huntress report it is being exploited in the wild. It follows Huntress's disclosure of an exploit chain combining CVE-2026-86206 and CVE-2026-86207 that bypasses access controls to create unauthorized administrative accounts, investigated after a September 4 compromise of a fully patched customer environment. N-able has applied mitigations to all hosted N-central instances; on-premises customers must upgrade to Hotfix 4 (build 2026.3.1.14) immediately.

GPU-CFR: 80x Faster Counterfactual Regret Minimization by Compiling the Game to Static Dataflow and CUDA Graph Replay

GPU-CFR compiles counterfactual regret minimization into static dataflow with CUDA Graph Replay, achieving 29.8-80.4x speedups over prior GPU solvers.

The paper presents a compiler and runtime that turns any fixed game's CFR iteration into a static dataflow graph of flat arrays and precomputed indices, cutting framework operations by up to 18.1x. Because shapes and buffer addresses never change, CUDA Graph Replay records the iteration once and replays it with a single launch. On one A100 across an eight-game suite, GPU-CFR runs 29.8-80.4x faster than the fastest prior GPU CFR and 14-258x faster than the CPU implementation LiteEFG on the four largest games, while reproducing reference iterates bitwise on CPU.
