[AINews] Poolside gets $12B reverse-execuhire to NVIDIA; founders stay for $1B, employees go for $6B, Infraco scaling to 7GW neocloud

NVIDIA struck a $12B deal with AI coding startup Poolside, licensing its Model Factory and hiring 109 of its technical employees.

NVIDIA spent roughly $12B in an unusual reverse-execuhire of Poolside, licensing the company's Model Factory while hiring 109 of its ~115 technical staff; founders retain a $1B stake and employees receive about $6B. Poolside had raced to raise $2B to fund a 40,000 GB300 cluster after missing a six-week funding window, and founders argue frontier-scale training now requires an order of magnitude more compute plus contracted data center space. An infrastructure arm spun out in January 2026 is scaling toward 7GW as a neocloud. The newsletter also recaps OpenAI and Anthropic agent-platform releases.

There Gonna Be a Shortage of Everything

An essay argues AI capex ($1.0–1.3T in 2026) now rivals global human-benefit spending and predicts shortages spreading from DRAM/HBM to cars and appliances.

The essay claims AI demand has caused DRAM and NAND shortages, doubled US gas turbine prices, and pushed memory makers to shift DRAM capacity to HBM. It cites the Hugging Face hack, where models self-organized and persisted information, and ARC-AGI 3 being solved in six months by OpenAI's general-purpose LLM ('Astra') as evidence of rapid capability gains. The author predicts mass humanoid robot production within five years will inflate prices of cars and appliances, and notes AI capital investment ($1.0–1.3T in 2026) now matches the ~$1.3T spent globally on human-benefit research and aid.

NVIDIA to Acquire Hugging Face

NVIDIA agreed to acquire Hugging Face for $12.93 billion while pledging to keep the platform open, multi-cloud and vendor-neutral.

NVIDIA announced an agreement to acquire Hugging Face for $12,930,300,000. Hugging Face hosts more than 3 million models, 500,000 datasets and 1 million applications used by over 18 million developers and 200,000 companies. NVIDIA says the platform will remain open, with no requirement to use NVIDIA compute, and will continue supporting multi-cloud and multi-accelerator development and deployment. NVIDIA is already Hugging Face's largest contributor of open models and datasets, with more than 500 models and 250 open datasets released.

How to secure edge AI in customer-owned environments

Microsoft outlines security architecture guidance for edge AI, urging runtime attestation, artifact provenance, and deterministic mediation of model actions.

Microsoft details how edge AI shifts trust responsibilities to customers operating their own infrastructure, where prompt injection, model tampering, and malicious firmware updates can occur alongside model weights, credentials, and physical-system access. The guidance recommends verifying runtimes with attestation, verifying AI artifacts with provenance, and constraining model actions through a deterministic mediator outside the model. It also covers new exposure surfaces from MCP, multi-agent systems, and computer-use agents running in disconnected or hostile edge environments.

Agility Robotics says its new Digit 5 robot can work next to people without safety fences

Agility Robotics unveiled Digit 5, a humanoid warehouse robot that can work safely alongside people without fences, with deliveries from early 2027.

Agility Robotics announced Digit 5, a humanoid robot for warehouses and factories that uses AI and sensors to detect people and stop or step aside without safety fences. It lifts up to 22.7 kg (40% more than Digit 4), charges in 9 minutes for 90 minutes of runtime, and is the first partner for Nvidia's Halos robotics safety platform. Agility cites over $300 million in orders, with first deliveries in early 2027 and production capacity of up to 10,000 units per year in Salem, Oregon.

Risky Bulletin: White House lets private companies carry out offensive cyber ops

A White House memo directs DHS to create a program letting vetted private companies conduct US-government-directed offensive cyber operations against cybercrime.

A presidential memo tasks the DHS National Coordination Center with building a program, under DOJ and DHS oversight, through which private-sector companies can conduct offensive cyber operations against large-scale cybercrime organizations. Requirements include secure facilities, vetted personnel, a $1 million escrow for damages, and written approvals co-signed by DHS and DOJ executive directors. The program must launch within 60 days, around October 11, expanding a March executive order targeting scam compounds, ransomware, and other large-scale cybercrime.

Skild AI Taps NVIDIA Physical AI to Teach Robots New Tasks From a Single Video

Skild AI launched its S1 robot foundation model, built on NVIDIA infrastructure, that learns long-horizon industrial tasks from a single video.

Skild AI's S1 model uses in-context learning from one video demonstration to execute unfamiliar multistep tasks lasting up to 10 minutes without weight updates or task-specific post-training. In tests on new tasks it achieved about 66% per-step success versus 9% for a comparable AI system, and one video demonstration was estimated to match roughly 380 hands-on training examples. The company reached a $100 million annual revenue run rate with more than 60 deployment partnerships, and with NVIDIA and Foxconn deploys the Skild Brain on dual-arm manipulators assembling NVIDIA Blackwell systems. Training and validation rely on NVIDIA Isaac Lab, Isaac Sim, Omniverse, Cosmos and the Newton physics engine.

Self-improving AI should slow down, von der Leyen tells EU lawmakers

EU Commission President von der Leyen urges frontier labs to slow self-improving AI, citing hacking risks, and announces Canada and UK partnerships on AI security.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen used her State of the Union address to call for slowing self-recursive frontier AI, warning that models in development will enable hacking at previously unimagined levels. She announced joint work with Canada and the UK on model evaluation, verification, early warning, and AI security, and proposed widening the CETA trade agreement into an alliance covering AI, quantum technology, and cyber and economic security. She defended the EU AI Act as central to guardrails, promised initiatives for health, transport, agrifood, manufacturing, and defense in November, and backed an EU Kids Act barring social media for children under 13.

rMuscle: Robotic Muscle Memory for Efficient Vision-Language-Action Model Inference

rMuscle, a caching-based inference framework for vision-language-action models, achieves 1.29-1.42x speedups on RTX 4090 and Jetson Thor while preserving success rates.

rMuscle is a real-time inference framework for Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models that exploits cross-execution similarity in repetitive robot tasks via a dual-phase muscle-memory cache. The Context Cache reuses visual-token outputs to reduce computation, while the Action Cache reuses neuron activation patterns to reduce weight accesses, with online recomputation and sliding-window retrieval keeping overhead low. It achieves 1.29-1.42x speedups on RTX 4090 and Jetson Thor across LIBERO, RoboTwin, and real-world manipulation tasks while maintaining original success rates.
