China-Based Artificial Intelligence Companies Conducting Industrial-Scale Distillation Campaigns Against U.S. AI Companies

NSA, CISA, and FBI warn DeepSeek, Alibaba, and other Chinese AI firms ran industrial-scale distillation of U.S. frontier models, threatening U.S. AI leadership.

A joint NSA, CISA, and FBI Cybersecurity Advisory (AA26-251A) says China-based firms DeepSeek, Moonshot AI, Alibaba, MiniMax, StepFun, and Z.AI extracted billions of tokens from U.S. frontier models including Claude, GPT, Gemini, and Grok, likely with Chinese government knowledge. Campaigns running since at least late 2024 used native APIs, cloud providers, third-party aggregators, gray-market proxy "transfer stations", and shared premium subscriptions to bypass geographic restrictions, evade safeguards, and violate providers' terms of use. The agencies recommend detecting anomalous prompts, accounts, and usage patterns; subtly altering responses to suspected distillers; and cross-organization intelligence sharing. They also call DeepSeek's publicly cited $5.6M training cost misleading because it excludes data acquired through distillation.

Chinese AI firms are siphoning capabilities from American models, CISA warns

CISA, NSA and FBI warn Chinese AI firms including DeepSeek and Moonshot AI extracted billions of tokens from US frontier models via distillation campaigns.

A joint CISA, NSA and FBI advisory says China-based firms including DeepSeek, Moonshot AI, Alibaba, MiniMax, StepFun and Z.AI have run industrial-scale knowledge distillation campaigns against US frontier models such as Claude, GPT, Gemini and Grok since at least late 2024, likely with Chinese government knowledge. The campaigns used gray-market API proxies called transfer stations, premium account pools and traffic routing to bypass restrictions, evade safeguards and exfiltrate billions of tokens used to train models like DeepSeek R1/V3 and Kimi. The agencies challenge DeepSeek's reported $5.6 million training cost and recommend identity verification, usage monitoring, response variation, differential privacy and indicator sharing as defenses.

Cisco Identity Services Engine Authenticated Remote Code Execution and API Vulnerabilities

Cisco fixed ISE vulnerabilities enabling authenticated SQL injection and OS command execution; CVE-2026-20282 and CVE-2026-20283 rated High.

Multiple Cisco Identity Services Engine vulnerabilities allow an authenticated remote attacker to conduct SQL injection, modify data, or execute arbitrary commands on the underlying OS. Cisco assigned a Security Impact Rating of High to CVE-2026-20282 and CVE-2026-20283 because attackers can easily reach root from the achieved privilege level. Software updates are available and a workaround addresses one of the vulnerabilities.

ENISA: Frontier AI Is Changing the Speed of Cyberattacks. Europe Needs to Catch Up

ENISA warns frontier AI compresses attack lifecycles to minutes, with exploits possible within 15 minutes of disclosure and median 72-minute breach-to-exfiltration times.

ENISA's July 2026 paper 'ENISA's view on Cybersecurity in the Frontier AI Era' argues AI-assisted attackers may weaponize vulnerabilities within 15 minutes of disclosure and achieve initial-access-to-data-exfiltration in a median 72 minutes, creating a 'negative time-to-exploit' problem. The report cites one organisation whose CVE volume rose from roughly 80 in Q1 2025 to almost 500 in Q1 2026, then about 500 reports per day when frontier-AI tools were used. ENISA recommends machine-speed defence under 'Cybersecurity as Code', EPSS and VEX-based prioritisation, AI-assisted incident response with human oversight, and an assume-breached architecture.

Best Practices for Good Endpoint Hardening | Huntress

Huntress outlines endpoint hardening best practices, citing exposed RDP, RMM tool abuse, and ClickFix social engineering as common SMB intrusion paths.

Huntress published defensive guidance on endpoint hardening for small and mid-sized businesses, drawing on observations from its SOC. The post describes common intrusion vectors: internet-exposed RDP brute-forced by automated scanners, phishing emails delivering attacker-controlled remote monitoring and management (RMM) tools, with Huntress reporting a 277% spike in RMM abuse in 2025, and ClickFix attacks using fake CAPTCHA pages that trick users into running malicious commands. Recommended controls include scanning for exposed RDP, SSH, and VPN interfaces, removing unneeded local admin rights, enabling Windows Defender tamper protection, disabling SMBv1, and standardizing on one approved remote access tool, guided by CIS and NIST frameworks.

CISA tells operators to harden Siemens S7 PLCs. Here’s how to do it without disrupting production

CISA, NSA, FBI and other agencies warn of active targeting of internet-exposed Siemens S7 PLCs and urge patching, exposure removal and hardening.

Joint advisory AA26-231A from the NSA, CISA, FBI, Department of Energy and EPA warns that actors are actively targeting Siemens S7 PLCs using internet scanning, AI-assisted scripts and libraries such as Snap7 and python-snap7 over S7comm on TCP port 102. The advisory covers S7-200 through S7-1500 series controllers and recommends patching, removing internet exposure, access controls, monitoring and disabling unneeded services. Siemens states no new S7 vulnerabilities are involved, only misconfigurations addressed in existing ProductCERT guidance SSB-104599. The article details how to apply each measure without breaking production dependencies such as remote I/O, HMI links and diagnostics.

Windows memory integrity switches on automatically for eligible devices in October 2026

Microsoft's Windows quality updates will automatically enable memory integrity and Virtualization-based Security on eligible devices starting October 2026.

Beginning in October 2026, Windows quality updates will automatically enable memory integrity on eligible devices and turn on Virtualization-based Security where it is not already running. Memory integrity restricts kernel-mode execution to trusted, signed code and drivers, blocking kernel compromise and rootkits. Microsoft said existing administrator decisions remain in effect, and readiness checks weigh hardware capability, compatibility, and performance. Memory integrity also underpins hotpatch updates that install without a reboot, so unprotected devices are excluded from that servicing model.

Slovakia Warns of Cyber Risks in Road Speed Cameras

Slovakia's NBÚ warns that speed camera systems from SODASUS, Simicon and NEROline pose cyber risks including undocumented remote access.

Slovakia's National Security Authority (NBÚ) warned of a significant cyber threat tied to several road speed camera products: NERO R-ONE units sold by Cyprus-based SODASUS, and Cordon-series cameras made by Russia's Simicon and sold by Croatia's NEROline. A security analysis requested by the Interior Ministry found weak protections, mismatches between documented and actual communication settings and software versions, unclear hardware/software provenance, and pre-configured remote-access mechanisms outside operator control. NBÚ warned that compromised cameras could expose vehicle and licence-plate data, tamper with records, or serve as a foothold into public-sector networks lacking segmentation. The Interior Ministry reportedly removed the units from its pilot deployment and asked the supplier to replace them with equipment meeting Slovak and EU security requirements.
