Meta Releases Muse, a Personal AI Agent With Privacy ‘Built Into It’

Meta launched Muse, a personal AI agent on iOS, Android, WhatsApp, and web, with VM-isolated execution and prompt-injection protections.

Meta released Muse, a personal AI agent from Meta Superintelligence Labs that automates tasks such as sending email, booking travel, and making purchases, accessible via a dedicated app, Muse.ai, and WhatsApp. The agent runs in a Secure VM architecture that isolates untrusted web and integration data from the action-taking component, with a Sentinel system that routes human-in-the-loop approval prompts directly to users to resist prompt injection. Purchases use Stripe's Link single-use card numbers with no-fee return protections, and a future Confidential VM co-developed with Moxie Marlinspike will run in trusted execution environments with user-held keys. Meta added Muse to its public bug bounty with payouts up to $300,000, including up to $130,000 for single-user prompt injection findings.

OpenAI unveiled Jalapeno custom inference chip claiming 1.5-1.9x better perf-per-watt than NVIDIA GB200/GB300, deploying in-house by year-end.

At the 37th Hot Chips conference, OpenAI published first benchmark details for its custom Jalapeno inference chip, claiming 1.5-1.9x more work per watt, 1.7-3.6x lower end-to-end latency, and 2.1-4.1x higher interactive-workload performance versus NVIDIA GB200/GB300, with the 700W-rated part staying at or below 550W in tests. Deployment into OpenAI's own infrastructure begins by year-end, with Gen 2 deep in development and Gen 3 underway. OpenAI also said GPT-Astra and Codex helped write low-level kernels, reportedly 1.5-1.8x faster than human-expert code for selected attention and MoE blocks. Cerebras CS-5, Groq 3 LPX and Apple M6 were also featured at the conference.

The agent runs in a dedicated Muse Secure VM with a separate Sentinel agent kept apart at the system level, and Meta claims it cannot see passwords or payment data and does not share conversations with ad systems. Muse is free to start, with Power ($20/month) and Maximum ($100/month) subscription tiers, and is available on the web, iOS, Android, and WhatsApp, with Meta AI glasses support planned. The launch follows Meta's $18 billion multistate consumer-harms settlement and comes as rivals like Gemini Spark and Claude Cowork push agentic AI.

Muse can shop, write emails, and negotiate prices for users, all through WhatsApp

Meta introduced Muse, an autonomous agent controlled through WhatsApp that runs on its own cloud virtual machine, plans multi-step tasks, browses, fills forms, and negotiates on users' behalf. Payments run through Stripe's Link using one-time cards, which Meta calls the first AI agent covered by Link's purchase protection, with Shop Pay and 1Password integration planned. A second agent, Sentinel, gates all Muse network access and holds credentials, and a Muse Confidential VM with user-held encryption keys is planned later this year. Muse's model reportedly scored 44-48 on Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index v4.3, up from 31 for Muse Spark in April, near GPT-5.6 Sol's 47; it launches first in the US on iOS and Android.

Mistral raises €3B as sovereign AI becomes big business

Mistral AI raised a €3B Series D at a €21B+ valuation, led by Samsung Electronics, to scale European compute capacity and sovereign AI services.

French AI lab Mistral AI raised €3 billion (~$3.58B) at a post-money valuation above €21 billion, which it calls the largest equity round ever completed by a European technology company. Samsung Electronics led the round, with EQT's Scaleup Europe Fund and PSG Equity as co-leads; a16z, Nvidia, Salesforce Ventures, Advent, BlackRock, and Luxembourg also participated. The company plans to build 1 GW of European compute capacity by 2030, offer region-selectable query processing, and host third-party open-weight models as part of a sovereign AI strategy. Mistral operates in 20 countries and targets governments and enterprises seeking control over AI models and data residency.
