Unified CT and MRI Pancreas Segmentation for Label-Efficient Cross-Modality Subregion Transfer

Domain-adversarial nnU-Net trained on 4,604 CT/MRI scans achieves 87.31% Dice pancreas segmentation with label-efficient subregion transfer.

A unified 3D pancreas segmentation framework applies domain-adversarial learning to 4,604 heterogeneous CT and MRI scans, aligning CT-MRI features via a latent domain discriminator on a shared nnU-Net encoder-decoder. Whole-pancreas segmentation reaches 87.31% Dice in-distribution and 84.20%-88.09% across external OOD datasets. The transferred encoder achieves 80.53% Dice on MRI and 83.05% on CT for downstream head-body-tail subregion segmentation using only limited MRI subregion annotations.

PANORAMA: Panoptic Grounded Captioning via Mask Proposal Selection

Researchers introduce PANORAMA, a vision-language model grounding caption phrases in pixel masks, alongside the PanoCaps benchmark and gPQ metric.

The paper studies panoptic grounded captioning, requiring VLMs to describe foreground and background regions while grounding each phrase with pixel-level masks. The authors release PanoCaps, a human-annotated benchmark built from panoptic segmentation datasets, plus a phrase-mask matching protocol and a generalized Panoptic Quality (gPQ) metric. PANORAMA formulates grounding as selection from phrase-conditioned mask proposals generated by a pretrained segmenter, achieving the best overall grounding on PanoCaps and matching or exceeding specialized models. Code, data, and models are publicly available.

Kaininja: Extending Native 3D Generators to the Part Level

KaiNinja extends TRELLIS.2 native 3D generation to part-level assets via a dual-volume O-Voxel representation, cutting whole-object Chamfer distance by 40%.

KaiNinja extends the TRELLIS.2 native 3D generator to produce part-level assets instead of one fused mesh, enabling downstream editing, rigging, and simulation. A dual-volume form of the O-Voxel representation solves the problem that a single volume cannot represent interfaces where two parts touch. The model needs no segmentation network, is partly trained on LLM-agent-authored part data, lowers whole-object Chamfer distance by 40%, and raises strict part F-score by 16% versus other part-generation pipelines.

AI models' written reasoning steps correspond to distinct internal patterns, a new study finds

KAIST and Naver AI Lab researchers show LLM reasoning steps like extraction and computation map to distinct activation patterns, strongest in middle layers.

Researchers at KAIST and Naver AI Lab defined eight recurring reasoning operations, including extraction, decomposition, formula recall, deduction, and computation, and showed they correspond to separable activation patterns in Qwen2.5-7B, Qwen3-8B, and Gemma4-31B on math tasks, with GPT-5 labeling solution segments. The separation peaks in middle layers, holds even when a computation step produces a wrong answer, and goes beyond surface-level token choice. Findings replicated on Llama-3-8B, and classifiers trained on Qwen3-8B transferred to GPQA-Diamond and MATH-500. The authors note that using internal states for error detection or mid-generation steering remains future work.

LACE: Layer-Wise Compression for Dynamic Frame Rate Codecs

LACE introduces layer-wise compression for dynamic frame rate audio codecs, cutting sequence lengths and speeding TTS inference while preserving quality.

LACE (Layer-Adaptive Codec Encoding) applies an independent compression step at each quantization layer of a neural audio codec, enabling layer-specific segmentation boundaries instead of shared ones. Union alignment and boundary anchor mechanisms keep durations consistent for downstream text-to-speech. On LibriTTS, LACE achieves a better rate-quality tradeoff than prior dynamic frame rate codecs and improves TTS inference efficiency at competitive synthesis quality. Code is released in the ESPnet3 codec recipe.

Anatomical Grounding and Leakage-Aware Multimodal Contrastive Learning for Alzheimer's Disease Classification from Structural MRI

Study of label leakage and anatomical grounding in multimodal MRI models for Alzheimer's staging shows cognitive-score fusion accuracy of 87.3% is leakage-driven.

The authors train a ResNet18 slice-based encoder with a one-layer Transformer on 1,075 ADNI-1 T1 MRI scans, using FastSurfer segmentations and YOLOv8 localization (mAP_50 above 0.96) as anatomical reference. Grad-CAM shows the image-only classifier often attends to skull and background rather than disease-relevant structures. A CLIP-style image-tabular contrastive framework organized along a label-leakage spectrum yields 87.3% three-way accuracy with cognitive scores versus 73.0% with regional volumes, and cropping to the medial temporal lobe raises image-only accuracy from 58.7% to 65.1%. Results come from single runs on a small balanced test set with reported confidence intervals.

EventEgoHands++: Event-based Egocentric 3D Hand Mesh Reconstruction with Real Dataset

EventEgoHands++ reconstructs egocentric 3D hand meshes from event cameras using instance-level detection and a 1M-frame real dataset.

EventEgoHands++ adds a Hand Detector estimating instance-level bounding boxes and masks for both hands, plus Adaptive Attention that dynamically gates attention based on detection results to learn inter-hand relationships. The authors extend the synthetic N-HOT3D dataset and construct EEH-R, the largest real-world event-based egocentric hand dataset to date, with roughly 1 million annotated frames including low-light conditions. Experiments on synthetic and real datasets show consistent improvements over baselines.

Assessing nnU-Net Generalization across Brain Tumor Populations in BraTS-GoAT 2026

A 3D nnU-Net trained on 1,351 BraTS-GoAT 2026 cases shows mean Dice dropping 0.0747 from out-of-fold to pooled validation, exposing generalization gaps.

Researchers trained a conventional 3D nnU-Net on 1,351 labeled brain tumor cases with five-fold cross-validation and 1,000 epochs per fold, averaging folds with test-time mirroring for the final predictor. On pooled official validation, global Dice scores were 0.7805 for enhancing tumor, 0.8288 for tumor core, and 0.8854 for whole tumor. Under matched fold-0 inference, mean regional Dice fell from 0.9058 on source out-of-fold cases to 0.8310 on pooled validation, and failures correlated with smaller and more disconnected enhancing tumor components rather than volume alone.

Transfer Learning for Evolving Domains

TrED formalizes transfer learning for domains whose data availability evolves over time, arguing classical settings are regimes along one trajectory, and remains unsolved.

The paper introduces Transfer Learning for Evolving Domains (TrED), formalizing transfer learning as a trajectory problem where target data and labels are progressively collected. TrED is specified by a data availability process fixed by the environment, a freely chosen learning protocol, and an evaluation criterion scoring the whole trajectory of models. Classical settings like domain generalization, domain adaptation, and multi-domain learning are recovered as regimes within this framework. The authors survey the literature and find most methods are tailored to a single regime, leaving TrED a well-posed open problem.

RelateAnything: Real-Time Open-Vocabulary Relation Prediction From Any Inputs

RelateAnything is a 53M-parameter open-vocabulary relation prediction model running at 20 ms/frame, with 2.3-3.5x higher mean recall than comparable open-vocabulary methods.

RelateAnything predicts scored relations between image regions using any predicate vocabulary supplied at inference as text embeddings, with object labels never required as input, so region sources can change without retraining. Training covers 19,103 predicates using positive-unlabeled supervision; the authors release RA-4M (474k images, 4.3M geometrically verified relations over 10,102 free-text predicates) and the OV-SGG-Bench evaluation suite. The 53M-parameter model runs at 20 ms/frame and achieves 2.3-3.5x the mean recall of the strongest comparable open-vocabulary method across cross-dataset and zero-shot benchmarks. Model, corpus, and benchmark are public.
