Another Apache Log4j Vulnerability Is Actively Exploited in the Wild (CVE-2021
Apache Log4j 2 RCE CVE-2021-44228 is actively exploited via crafted JNDI lookups; Palo Alto Unit 42 urges upgrading to Log4j 2.17.1.
Unit 42 details CVE-2021-44228, an easily exploited remote code execution flaw in Apache Log4j 2 where attacker-supplied JNDI lookups in logged user input cause payload download and execution. Massive internet-wide scanning for unpatched systems has begun, with observed follow-on activity including information stealing, Cobalt Strike delivery, and coinmining. The recommended fix is Log4j 2.17.1, which also patches CVE-2021-45046, CVE-2021-45105, and CVE-2021-44832. Widely used Java software including Apache Struts, Solr, Druid, Flink, ElasticSearch, and Spring Boot is affected.
Threat Brief: Atlassian Confluence Remote Code Execution Vulnerability (CVE-2022
Unauthenticated Confluence RCE CVE-2022-26134 was exploited in the wild; Volexity observed intrusions and Cerber ransomware on unpatched servers.
Volexity identified exploitation of CVE-2022-26134, an unauthenticated remote code execution vulnerability in Atlassian Confluence Server and Data Center, during Memorial Day weekend 2022, with Atlassian issuing a patch. Cortex Xpanse found 19,707 potentially affected Confluence instances, concentrated in the US, Germany, China, and Russia, plus 1,251 end-of-life versions exposed. Unit 42 and Cortex Managed Threat Hunting observed successful exploitation leading to reconnaissance commands and a Cerber ransomware deployment that was blocked by Cortex XDR. A public PoC has increased exploitation risk.
Cisco email security boxes can be rooted by... an email
Attackers actively exploit critical Cisco Secure Email Gateway flaw CVE-2026-76461, turning a malicious email into unauthenticated root access.
Cisco Secure Email Gateway appliances are being actively exploited via CVE-2026-76461, a CVSS 9.8 AsyncOS flaw requiring no authentication—a crafted email can yield root command execution with no workarounds. Cisco's PSIRT became aware of active exploitation in September; some Secure Email Cloud customers showed indicators of compromise and all cloud devices were upgraded to AsyncOS 16.5.0-780. The bug is in CISA's KEV catalog with federal agencies ordered to remediate by September 17; Shadowserver counted 400+ exposed appliances. Fixes are available in AsyncOS 15.5.5-014, 16.0.4-302, and 16.5.0-780, and attackers with root may tamper with logs to hide activity.
2026-002: Multiple Vulnerabilities in Cisco Products
Cisco fixed SD-WAN Controller auth bypass CVE-2026-20127 (CVSS 10) exploited in the wild since 2023, plus several critical and high flaws in SD-WAN Manager.
On 25 February 2026 Cisco released advisories for multiple flaws in Catalyst SD-WAN Controller and SD-WAN Manager, potentially granting administrative access to attackers. CVE-2026-20127 (CVSS 10.0) is an authentication bypass in the Controller's peering authentication mechanism, exploited in the wild since 2023, allowing unauthenticated admin access via NETCONF, rogue device injection, and persistent access. SD-WAN Manager flaws include CVE-2026-20129 (9.8, unauthenticated API auth bypass to netadmin), CVE-2026-20126 (7.8, local privesc to root), CVE-2026-20133 (7.5, info disclosure), CVE-2026-20122 (7.1, arbitrary file overwrite), and CVE-2026-20128 (5.5, DCA info disclosure). CERT-EU recommends patching, capturing forensic evidence, IOC hunting, and restricting management-plane internet exposure.
