CVE-2026-34486: Apache Software Foundation Apache Tomcat

CISA added CVE-2026-34486, an actively exploited Apache Tomcat EncryptInterceptor bypass enabling unauthenticated deserialization RCE, to its KEV catalog.

CVE-2026-34486 allows bypass of Apache Tomcat's EncryptInterceptor, a flaw introduced by the fix for padding-oracle issue CVE-2026-29146 in Tribes cluster encryption. CISA added the flaw to the Known Exploited Vulnerability catalog on August 4, 2026, alongside actively exploited Langflow and N-central flaws, with remediation required under BOD 26-04 guidance. Official patches and workarounds are available, and reporting notes unauthenticated remote code execution through Java deserialization on the Tribes receiver port 4000.

Google Patches Pixel Modem Zero-Day Exploited in Targeted Attacks

Google patched Pixel modem zero-day CVE-2026-58704 (CVSS 8.0), exploited in limited targeted attacks, enabling adjacent privilege escalation without user interaction.

Google's September 2026 Pixel security update fixes CVE-2026-58704, a CVSS 8.0 permission bypass caused by a logic error in the cellular modem, allowing remote (proximal/adjacent) elevation of privilege with no user interaction or additional privileges. Google confirms indications of limited, targeted exploitation in the wild but provides no attribution, target count, or attack objectives. The modem location is significant because it operates below much of the Android application security model. The bulletin also patches multiple critical RCE flaws in IMS, libpixelimsmedia, VPU, modem, telephone and BigOcean components, with the 2026-09-05 patch level protecting devices.

Critical Gitea RCE Actively Exploited as Reported Attack Drops Miner

CISA added actively exploited Gitea RCE CVE-2026-60004 (CVSS 9.8) to the KEV catalog as attackers deploy a cryptojacking dropper.

CVE-2026-60004 is a critical remote code execution flaw affecting Gitea versions 1.17 through 1.27.0, abused via the diffpatch endpoint to install a Git hook and execute shell commands as the Gitea OS user. Default open registration lets unauthenticated attackers obtain the required repository write access. CISA added the flaw to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog, giving federal agencies until August 28, 2026 to patch; version 1.27.1 fixes it. A developer reported their HOSTKEY-hosted VPS was exploited to run a miner-like dropper, driving CPU usage above 70% and killing competing processes.
