The largest include Visa acquiring fraud-detection firm BioCatch for $2.4 billion in cash and Munich Re buying cyber insurtech At-Bay for $575 million through its HSB unit. Fortinet acquired AI security company Virtue AI, Palo Alto Networks bought agentic workflow platform Console, Cribl acquired AI-native SOC startup Radiant Security, and Deel bought deepfake-detection firm Clarity for a reported $40-50 million. Brinqa, Datavault AI, Echo, and Kiteworks also announced acquisitions.

An IANS AI Security Survey of 113 CISOs fielded in April and May found 41% optimistic and 38% pessimistic about their organization's ability to manage AI security risks over the next 24 months. Six organizational signals—leadership understanding of AI risk, defined governance ownership, security team effectiveness with AI tools, CISO ownership of the AI-security budget, sustainable workloads, and staffing—separate confident CISOs from pessimistic ones. Interviewed analysts cautioned that these readiness signals measure self-assessed confidence rather than actual security, and recommended hands-on AI use by security teams plus governance of third-party models.

More than 100 companies including OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Microsoft, AWS, Capital One, Mastercard, CrowdStrike, Palo Alto Networks and Proofpoint signed an open letter published Thursday calling for accelerated cybersecurity defenses as AI capabilities advance. The letter argues a shrinking 'defenders' window' exists to fix accumulated weaknesses such as excessive permissions, misconfigurations and unpatched legacy systems before AI-enabled attacks grow more widespread. It asks governments to coordinate cross-border defense and fund protection of critical infrastructure, and asks frontier AI labs to provide model access, funding and support. It references a June US executive order creating the Gold Eagle AI threat-sharing clearinghouse.
