The researchers show that heuristics extracted from the clustering map can be implemented in standard SQL, enabling role classification at scale without running a continuous ML pipeline. The 53M-parameter model runs at 20 ms/frame and achieves 2.3-3.5x the mean recall of the strongest comparable open-vocabulary method across cross-dataset and zero-shot benchmarks. One Compromised Kubernetes Node Can Expose Every Workload Identity Running on Itnew

Unit42 researchers show a root attacker on a Kubernetes node can manipulate cgroups to make the local SPIRE agent issue other workloads' identities.

Palo Alto Networks Unit42 demonstrated that an attacker with root access on a Kubernetes node can alter Linux cgroup data so the local SPIRE agent matches a target pod's selectors and issues its SVID to an attacker-controlled process. The technique affects SPIFFE/SPIRE deployments, which assume node trustworthiness, and means every workload identity on a compromised node should be considered exposed. Researchers have not observed the method in the wild and released Spooffe, a testing tool to measure node identity exposure.

220 million traveler records exposed in Vietnam-linked APIS leak

Vietnam-linked APIS Elasticsearch leak exposed 220 million passenger and crew records with passport numbers and flight details spanning 2017 to 2026.

Kinryū Labs discovered an exposed Elasticsearch cluster named 'pax-info' holding 210,318,069 passenger records and 10,465,631 crew records (roughly 107 GB across 29 indices) hosted in Viettel-assigned IP space in Hanoi. The database, apparently operated by a Vietnamese organization, was reachable via a chain of two misconfigurations: a cloud-based path that bypassed an HTTP 401 block and acceptance of default credentials. Exposed data included names, dates of birth, nationalities, passport numbers, and detailed flight information for travelers of many nationalities from January 2017 to April 2026. Access was remediated on June 8 after Kinryū Labs notified Vietnamese authorities, airlines, and CERTs, with Singapore Airlines' security team helping coordinate the response; it remains unknown whether any data was copied by malicious actors.

DoppelCart fraud network uses 119,000 fake shops to steal credit cards

DoppelCart, the largest documented fake-shop network, runs 119,000 domains impersonating 44,182 brands to steal payment card details via WebSocket-connected checkout pages.

German cybersecurity startup Nebty discovered DoppelCart, a network of more than 119,000 fake e-commerce domains, mostly in the .SHOP TLD, that harvest payment card details through fraudulent checkout pages. Over 105,000 shops remain active, impersonating 44,182 brands with discounts of up to 65%, and 96% of confirmed shops share identical build files resolving to 27 commerce backends. Checkout code exfiltrates card numbers, expiration dates, CVVs, cardholder names, contact details, and even bank one-time codes to attacker C2 over WebSockets in real time, potentially bypassing bank security controls. The network surpasses BogusBazaar, the previously largest documented fake-shop cluster with 75,000 sites and an estimated 850,000 fraudulent transactions.

More than 50% of the LLMs show verbatim retrieval on five datasets, and identical experiments are flagged 89% more often at a high reasoning level than at the lowest one. Suppressing retrieval moves model prediction errors closer together in relative terms, suggesting predictive capability is not determined solely by memorized values.

Of AI-related alerts, 94.1% were noise, 5.8% genuine risks, and 0.02% real attacks; 79.8% received benign verdicts, 81.7% were automatically suppressed, and only 5.4% reached a human analyst. The only confirmed attacks were phishing campaigns that weaponized AI brand names as lures, while developer coding agents spawning shells and reading credential stores routinely tripped detections written before AI agents existed.

Taiwan's Ministry of Digital Affairs confirmed a near-autonomous AI cyber attack in July 2026 in which autonomous agents mapped 21 connected government systems, compromised 85 accounts, and exfiltrated more than 2,564 personnel records in approximately four days. The cluster also includes the JADEPUFFER campaign.

China-Linked Fire Ant Hijacks Cisco Routers to Steal Credentials and Blind Security Logs

China-nexus espionage group Fire Ant compromised Cisco IOS XR routers and TACACS servers to harvest credentials, capture traffic and suppress logs.

Sygnia investigated an intrusion in which Fire Ant expanded beyond VMware hypervisors to Cisco IOS XR routers, TACACS servers and Linux management hosts. The actor deployed purpose-built router implants that hid a GRE tunnel, filtered log messages, captured PCAPs uploaded to external FTP servers, and used TacTap to inject a library into tac_plus and steal TACACS credentials obfuscated with a single-byte XOR key of 0xEF. A Linux backdoor named BridgeAgent masqueraded as a Zabbix agent, persisted via a root systemd unit, disguised itself as /usr/bin/gnome-shell and received commands over TLS on port 443. The group also used Medusa and REPTILE rootkits, SSH backdoors and renamed binaries impersonating SentinelOne and Cybereason agents, while suppressing logs, disabling SELinux and rewriting login history. Sygnia assesses strong overlap with UNC3886 and published IoCs.

Hackers stole over €35 million from 500+ French notary offices in a four-year BEC campaign; ANSSI spent two years helping evict the attackers.

A business email compromise campaign breached more than 500 French notary offices — about 7% of all French notaries per the Conseil Supérieur du Notariat — over four years, stealing more than €35 million by phishing initial access and silently modifying wire transfer details. France's cybersecurity agency ANSSI worked for two years behind the scenes to help notaries remove the persistent attackers, who had deep access; officials also feared hackers could issue fake notarized acts such as marriage certificates or forged real estate deals. No forged documents have been found so far, but notaries have added two-factor authentication and in-person requirements for banking details, and banks added extra checks in 2024. The newsletter also notes other incidents, including a $320 million Bitcoin extraction from Blockstream's Liquid Network and a JetBrains Cadence breach via TeamCity servers.

Successful exploitation of either can yield OS command execution as the SAP service account, leading to full system and business data compromise, and CERT-EU urges immediate patching. No in-the-wild exploitation is reported.

CISA added the flaw to its KEV catalog and ordered federal agencies to patch within three days, by September 17. Testing on an aircraft engine sensor dataset and a US census dataset revealed a roughly threefold gender gap in high earners (about 31% of men versus 11% of women) and two privacy failures: re-identification via age, race, sex, and country, and sensitive fields stored in plaintext. The working group included Sejong University, EGM, TTA, Daejeon University, and CNIT.

MAxBench is a geometry-agnostic evaluation framework for multinomial concept representations in language models, based on sampling from recovered concept representations. It compares 10 localization methods covering 5 geometry types across 6 concepts and 4 models. Findings show affine subspaces steer more reliably than rank-one or linear subspaces due to better non-zero offsets, manifold steering is competitive where applicable, and no method consistently outperforms prompting.

Sandworm-Linked UAC-0145 Uses Fake Job Interviews to Push VPN That Can Run Commands

CERT-UA says Sandworm-linked UAC-0145 poses as recruiters in fake job interviews to deliver a trojanized WireGuard VPN that runs attacker commands on victims' hosts.

CERT-UA attributes the campaign, ongoing since May 2026, to UAC-0145, a subgroup within GRU-affiliated Sandworm (APT44). Posing as HR staff of firms like ATLAS Business Group and Sopra Steria Bulgaria, attackers lure Ukrainian IT specialists into Zoom interviews, then share failing WireGuard configs and push a custom SopraVPN client from SourceForge. The modified WireGuard build supports a non-standard SymmetricKey option holding AES-256-GCM-encrypted PowerShell, decrypted with the decoded PrivateKey and executed via runScriptCommand. A scheduled task then downloads a second-stage payload on Windows, while the Linux variant fetches it via cURL.

CVE-2026-86206, CVE-2026-86207: N-able N-central Authentication Bypass (FIXED)

Rapid7 disclosed two chained N-able N-central flaws, CVE-2026-86206 and CVE-2026-86207, enabling unauthenticated admin account creation; patched in 2026.3 Hotfix 3.

Rapid7 researchers found CVE-2026-86206 (semicolon/Forwarded access-control bypass, CWE-791, CVSSv4 6.9) and CVE-2026-86207 (UserTwoFactorLogin authentication bypass, CWE-305, CVSSv4 7.7) in the latest N-able N-central. Chained, they let a remote unauthenticated attacker create an attacker-controlled System administrator account. The bugs stem from Envoy and Jetty disagreeing on the requested path and whether the client is local. N-able patched both in N-central 2026.3 Hotfix 3, following the earlier CVE-2026-18577 authentication bypass.

The research shows the core trust assumption of machine-identity systems—that the node is trusted—collapses once root is obtained, exposing all cryptographic identities scoped to that node. Unit 42 released an open-source tool, Spooffe, for defenders to test identity exposure, and notes the technique has not been observed exploited in the wild.
