Android 17 adds new protections against sneaky Wi-Fi tracking and web snooping
Android 17 adds Encrypted Client Hello, Local Network Protection, default Certificate Transparency and operator-controlled 2G disabling to counter Wi-Fi tracking and snooping.
Google announced network security changes in Android 17, led by broad support for Encrypted Client Hello (ECH), which encrypts domain names visible to network operators and eavesdroppers, paired with GREASE decoys where server support is uneven. Jigsaw testing across the top 10,000 domains and 740 ISPs in 202 countries found connection success and interference levels comparable to ordinary TLS. Android 17 also adds Local Network Protection requiring app permission to scan local devices, Certificate Transparency on by default to catch forged certificates, and operator-side 2G disabling to cut exposure to SMS blaster fake base stations. Apps targeting Android 17 get ECH by default via networking libraries such as OkHttp, WebView and HttpEngine.
Cohesity adds recovery capabilities for AI agents and the data they manage

At Cohesity Catalyst, Cohesity introduced Agent Resilience within Cohesity Data Cloud, protecting AI agent memory and configuration with snapshot architecture, immutable backups, and clean-room recovery, plus recovery for databases and file systems that agents manage. It launches with Amazon Bedrock integration, support for Microsoft and Google platforms planned, and general availability targeted for year-end. The company cited Gartner's prediction that up to 40% of enterprise applications will include task-specific agents by 2026, and Cohesity research showing 56% of organizations are unprepared to detect or contain unintended agent actions while 58% lack confidence in verifying AI model integrity after attacks. Cohesity also outlined an Autonomous Cyber Resilience vision using agentic workflows and introduced the AI Resilience Academy.
Bot detection arrives in CrowdSec 1.8.0, along with two DoS fixes

CrowdSec 1.8.0, released August 31, introduces bot detection in its WAF using client challenges and fingerprinting, plus fixes for two denial-of-service vulnerabilities in the HTTP acquisition datasource (unbounded decompressed body size, trusted Content-Length) and the Kubernetes audit webhook datasource (unbounded request body reads). The release also adds a dedicated Kubernetes datasource pulling logs directly from the apiserver, new HTTP helpers for external queries in the expression language, and performance work on the decisions stream endpoint. The challenge requires SSE4.1 and writable-executable memory, so some legitimate visitors may be blocked.
AWS Console Private Access can block sign-ins to personal accounts
AWS Console Private Access goes GA, letting internet-isolated VPCs reach the console fully over PrivateLink and blocking personal account sign-ins.
AWS Console Private Access became generally available on August 28, allowing the AWS Management Console, sign-in flows, static assets, and console-only APIs to run entirely over PrivateLink endpoints from VPCs with no internet connectivity. Deployment requires three interface endpoints per Region, correct Private DNS and security group settings, and uses aws:PrincipalOrgID policies plus sign-in resource control policies to deny authentication from unexpected networks, which blocks corporate-network users from signing into personal AWS accounts. IAM Identity Center sign-in and consoles for services without PrivateLink support still need internet access, and a misconfigured policy can lock out the whole organization, so AWS recommends an excluded break-glass role; CLI and SDK SigV4 requests bypass these policies and serve as a recovery path.

Tenable announced it is bringing Anthropic's Claude Mythos 5 into the Tenable One Exposure Management Platform, extending its Project Glasswing research work with Anthropic. The first capability, Tenable One Adversary View, will use the model's adversarial reasoning over raw scanner evidence, plugin output, live connections and low-confidence signals to identify viable vulnerability chains and ranked defensive actions. Customers will act on results through Tenable Hexa AI. Availability details for Adversary View are expected in the coming weeks; no customer deployment exists yet.

Cloudflare announced a 'Disallow AI Training' setting that publishes a no-training preference in robots.txt so sites can block AI training (including by mixed-use crawlers) without losing search indexing. Apple, Google, and Microsoft meet Cloudflare's new 'Accountable' designation, which requires training/summary opt-out mechanisms, URL-level training visibility, and assurance that opt-outs don't affect search rankings. Cloudflare cites that under 1% of its sites block search bots while 17% block AI training, and its Block settings now apply to mixed-use crawlers as well. Granular controls over how much content appears in AI summaries are planned for early next year.
