Forgery of C2PA on a Pixel 10

Researcher forged a Google Pixel 10 C2PA content credential with genuine signatures, showing root-level attackers can fake photo provenance.

A Hacker Factor blog post demonstrates an AI-generated 'unicorn glitter milk' news photo carrying a valid, cryptographically signed C2PA manifest traceable to Google's Pixel camera certificate chain, passing validation in Adobe Inspect and the CAI Verify tool with a verified timestamp. The author, working with UMBC's PASAWG working group, reported to Google and C2PA in November 2025 that root access on a Pixel device could sign arbitrary images as camera captures; after 90 days without resolution, details were published. The finding undermines C2PA Assurance Level 2 claims made for Pixel 10 Content Credentials.

PHP Webshell Campaign Targets WordPress Through Critical WooCommerce Plugin Bug

Wordfence blocked over 100,000 exploitation attempts against CVE-2026-27540 in WooCommerce Wholesale Lead Capture, letting attackers upload PHP webshells to WordPress sites.

Wordfence reported more than 100,000 blocked exploitation attempts against CVE-2026-27540 in the WooCommerce Wholesale Lead Capture plugin (roughly 6,000 active installs), which was disclosed and patched on February 20 in version 2.0.3.2. The unauthenticated AJAX handler wwlc_file_upload_handler reads permitted file extensions from the attacker-controlled request, enabling arbitrary file upload of PHP files such as shell.php that report host details and serve further upload forms. Attack activity peaked between June 4 and June 17, 2026, with additional waves on July 1 and August 30. Wordfence rates the flaw CVSS 9.8, while Patchstack's CVE record lists 9.0.

Google Pixel phones pwned in zero-click attacks

CISA added actively exploited zero-click Pixel modem flaw CVE-2026-58704 to its KEV catalog, giving federal agencies three days to patch.

Google disclosed CVE-2026-58704, a high-severity improper authorization flaw in Pixel phones' cellular modems that bypasses permission checks and escalates privileges with no user interaction, noting limited, targeted exploitation. CISA added it to the Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog with a September 19 deadline for federal agencies. Such zero-click modem bugs are a frequent vector for commercial spyware. The Register also notes two recently KEV-listed Chromium V8 flaws, CVE-2026-85046 and CVE-2026-87491, which Proofpoint says four espionage groups chained in intrusions.

The skb that wasn't freed - the Fragnesia primitive via Open vSwitch

Doyensec details CVE-2026-90049 in Open vSwitch, enabling deterministic Linux kernel local privilege escalation on default major distribution installs.

Doyensec reports that the Open vSwitch datapath strips the SKBFL_SHARED_FRAG flag from packets it is still forwarding, allowing an in-place decrypt to write attacker-chosen bytes into root-owned page cache — a Dirty COW-class primitive that re-opens the Fragnesia bug family. The issues are tracked as CVE-2026-90049, CVE-2026-89487, and CVE-2026-80977, and were reported to the kernel security team with fixes coordinated alongside OVS maintainers. A deterministic local privilege escalation works on default installs of Arch, Fedora, Debian, Amazon Linux, and RHEL where unprivileged user namespaces and openvswitch auto-loading are enabled; the fix landed in mainline and shipped in stable on 09/04/2026. The write technique builds on the earlier Fragnesia and Dirty Frag bugs, including CVE-2026-43284 and CVE-2026-43500.

Hackers Allegedly Selling Fortinet FortiGate 1-Day Vulnerability on Underground Forumsnew

An unverified underground listing offers a claimed FortiGate SSL VPN RCE exploit for FortiOS 7.2.x/7.4.x amid ongoing exploitation of known Fortinet flaws.

Dark Web Intelligence shared an advertisement for a private '1-day' remote code execution exploit targeting FortiGate SSL VPN appliances on FortiOS 7.2.x and 7.4.x, with a claimed proof-of-concept video but no CVE, firmware builds, or technical details. The listing coincides with confirmed in-the-wild exploitation of CVE-2025-25249, an unauthenticated heap-based buffer overflow patched in January 2026 but exploited since July 2026, and CVE-2024-21762, a critical out-of-bounds write in the FortiOS and FortiProxy SSL VPN component. Fortinet has advised disabling SSL VPN where immediate upgrades are not possible.

Microsoft shares workaround for Windows domain login issues

Microsoft confirms September 2026 Windows updates trigger domain trust failures via Machine Identity Isolation and shares a workaround for Windows 11 enterprises.

Microsoft confirmed the September 2026 security updates (KB5124008 for Windows 11 24H2/25H2, KB5124012 for 26H1) cause Windows to honor Machine Identity Isolation enforcement settings, breaking domain trust on systems not connected to Windows Server 2025 domain controllers. Admins report valid credentials failing with domain trust and credential errors. The workaround requires disabling Machine Identity Isolation via the same management method that enabled it (Intune, group policy, or registry) and resetting the secure channel with Test-ComputerSecureChannel. Microsoft previously shipped out-of-band fixes for Remote Desktop, Hyper-V, and USB audio issues from the same updates.

Active Exploitation Triggers Emergency Patch for Cisco ISE Zero-Day

Cisco urgently patched actively exploited zero-day CVE-2026-76460 (CVSS 10.0), an ISE authentication bypass enabling root command execution; CISA added it to KEV.

Cisco released emergency patches for CVE-2026-76460 (CVSS 10.0), a zero-day authentication bypass in an API endpoint of Identity Services Engine (ISE) and ISE Passive Identity Connector (ISE-PIC), and confirmed active exploitation in the wild. Successful exploitation lets attackers bypass the web-based management interface and execute commands with root privileges, allowing them to hide or delete indicators of compromise. Fixed releases are ISE/ISE-PIC 3.5 Patch 4, 3.4 Patch 7, 3.3 Patch 12, 3.2 Patch 11, and 3.1 Patch 12; no workarounds exist beyond restricting traffic with infrastructure ACLs. CISA added the flaw to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog, giving US federal agencies three days to patch under BOD 26-04.

Unauthenticated RCE Flaws Could Expose 200,000+ WordPress Sites to Takeover

Two unauthenticated CVSS 9.8 code-injection and PHP object injection flaws in The Events Calendar plugin expose 200,000+ WordPress sites to RCE and takeover.

Defiant identified two critical vulnerabilities in The Events Calendar WordPress plugin, which has over 600,000 active installations. CVE-2026-78159, unauthenticated code injection during single-event HTML processing, was patched in version 6.17.3.1 on August 25; CVE-2026-78006, unauthenticated PHP object injection via event comments, was patched in 6.17.4.1 on September 10. Both independent chains lead to remote code execution and full site compromise. Roughly 240,000 sites run versions vulnerable to both flaws, and about 300,000 downloads between September 10 and 14 suggest half of installations may still lack the second fix.
