Cisco Talos observed 90 ransomware incidents against Japanese organizations from January to July 2026, up about 4.7% year over year, with manufacturing accounting for 34% of victims. The Gentlemen was the most active group with 14 incidents; its leak-site listings grew from 48 in January to 105 in July. Qilin and SafePay followed with seven incidents each, and Talos notes Qilin is leveraging AI to improve operational efficiency.

Flock Once Touted Its Cameras as ‘Made in the USA.’ Now It’s Not So Clear

WIRED investigation finds Flock Safety stopped marketing cameras as Made in USA, with imports from Taiwan's Primax Electronics facilities in Thailand.

WIRED reviewed US import records showing Flock has increasingly imported commodity cameras and radar components from Primax Electronics in Thailand. Earlier marketing claimed cameras were manufactured in the United States, with assembly in Atlanta and later contract facilities run by East West Manufacturing and Plexus. Flock says its products are National Defense Authorization Act compliant amid activist backlash, local government pullouts, and possible congressional legislation on license plate readers.

Hackers Use Cross-Platform Noodle RAT to Secretly Control Windows and Linux Systems

Check Point identifies Noodle RAT as a distinct cross-platform Windows/Linux backdoor used by Chinese-speaking actors against Asia-Pacific organizations since 2016.

Check Point assesses Noodle RAT, also known as ANGRYREBEL, as a distinct backdoor family rather than a variant of Gh0st RAT or Rekoobe, with separate Windows (Win.NOODLERAT) and Linux (Linux.NOODLERAT) variants sharing a common command-and-control design. The Windows implant runs filelessly via shellcode with loaders like MULTIDROP and MICROLOAD, while the Linux variant provides reverse shells, file management, and SOCKS tunneling after exploitation or web-shell placement on exposed servers. Groups including Iron Tiger, Calypso APT, Rocke, and Cloud Snooper have deployed it against organizations in Thailand, India, Japan, Malaysia, and Taiwan. Check Point released sample hashes and C2 IP indicators alongside the analysis.

Citizen Lab documents show Israeli influence-for-hire firm BlackCore ran a 14-week training and operations program for Angolan officials, producing more than 40 pro-government content pieces through a fictitious outlet called Agita News. Posts received roughly 20,000 likes, with some later approaching 50,000, in a country with an estimated six million active Facebook users. France's Viginum previously linked BlackCore to interference targeting France Unbowed and suspected operations in New York, Scotland and Togo, and Meta disrupted a related Israel-origin network in August.

Three Ukrainians to face charges for alleged hack of 610,000 Roblox accounts

Ukrainian prosecutors charged three men for stealing session tokens from over 610,000 Roblox accounts and selling them for an estimated $480,000.

Prosecutors in Ukraine's Lviv region said a 19-year-old organizer from Drohobych and two 22-year-old associates operated from May 2025 to April 2026, harvesting Roblox session tokens via infostealer malware disguised as game cheats and bonus software. They used software to validate stolen cookies and inventory virtual currency and rare items, then sold accounts via Russian platforms for as little as $0.80 each, advertising through Telegram channels and receiving crypto payments. All three are in custody facing charges of theft, money laundering, unauthorized computer interference, and illegal sale of restricted information, carrying up to 12 years in prison.

Ukraine moves to crack down on scam call centers after corruption scandal

Ukraine's parliament passed legislation criminalizing fraudulent call centers with 7-12 year prison terms after a bribery scandal implicating prosecutors.

Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada passed legislation making electronic-communications fraud and organizing or working for fraudulent call centers separate crimes punishable by 7-12 years, awaiting President Zelensky's signature. The bill advanced after NABU alleged prosecutors took bribes since mid-2025 to shield scam call centers; five suspects were named and Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko, who denies wrongdoing, was dismissed by parliament and presidential decree. Ukrainian authorities previously reported 411 searches and 94 suspected call centers shut down in one week, including a Kyiv operation that stole over $500,000 from dozens of Americans.
