"Shut Up and Let Me Enjoy My Otome": Understanding and Measuring the Toxicity in Otome Game Communities

First large-scale study finds 22.20% of Weibo otome game posts toxic versus 3.71% on Reddit, with LLM detectors reaching 0.82 F1.

Researchers present the first large-scale measurement of toxicity in otome game communities, introducing OtomeSCAN, which collected and analyzed 620,045 posts from Weibo and Reddit over 18 months. They manually annotated 4,308 posts, identified eight target groups, and evaluated seven toxicity detectors, with their best LLM-based model reaching F1-scores of 0.82 on Weibo and 0.78 on Reddit. The study found 22.20% of Weibo posts were toxic versus 3.71% on Reddit, and toxicity rose to 37.09% within 72 hours during an external attack on Weibo. The authors also flagged 191 potential-coordination clusters, 64.40% of which targeted game developers.

ICE Wants to Know Everyone Who Bought a Certain Green Beanie From REI in the Last 2 Years

DHS subpoenaed REI for all Minneapolis-area customers who bought a specific green beanie since 2024, part of an investigation into 39 ICE protest defendants.

Court filings allege Homeland Security Investigations agents subpoenaed REI in March for transaction records of all persons in the greater Minneapolis–St. Paul area who purchased a specific dark green beanie since 2024. The subpoena was one of 92 sent in a federal case against 39 people, including journalists, who attended an ICE protest at a church. Companies responded differently: T-Mobile handed over six months of a defendant's call and text logs, Google refused a request for YouTube viewers, Reddit withdrew after a First Amendment objection, and Meta pushed back on at least one summons. The 1509 customs summonses require no judicial oversight, and the total number issued under the Trump administration is unknown.

Google’s new search redirects make links harder to check before you click

Google routes some search result links through encoded google.com/goto?url= redirects, breaking hover-to-verify link checks and raising scraping costs.

Google has started routing some search result links through opaque google.com/goto?url=... redirects using a custom Google-specific encoding, with the destination visible only via the redirect response's Location header. Google confirmed the rollout as an anti-abuse measure, most likely to make bulk extraction of destination URLs from search results more difficult and costly. Malwarebytes warns the change undermines the standard hover-before-clicking safety advice, while legitimate rank-tracking, SEO auditing, archival, and accessibility tools now face the same rate limits and costs as abusive scrapers.

The story behind the intelligence

Cisco Talos newsletter features adversary-engagement podcast, flags AI guardrail 'safety penalty' slowing defenders, and recaps McKesson breach and PaperCut patching headlines.

The Threat Source newsletter spotlights the Beers with Talos podcast, in which researcher Azim Khodjibaev describes maintaining eight dark-web personas to identify prolific cybercriminals and support disruption efforts. Talos also argues frontier AI guardrails impose an AI 'safety penalty', citing a July 2026 incident where Hugging Face's primary cloud LLM refused to analyze forensic breach data and delayed response. Recapped headlines include ShinyHunters claiming theft of 284 million patient records from McKesson via vishing and Okta account takeover, Anthropic warning Claude users about infostealer malware, and PaperCut issuing emergency patches for chained vulnerabilities.
