Linux Kernel Hit by Four Privilege Escalation Flaws Enabling Root Accessnew

Researchers disclosed four Linux kernel privilege escalation vulnerabilities in long-standing networking code: DirtyAH6 (CVE-2026-80844) in IPv6 Authentication Header/XFRM processing, TUNderflow (CVE-2026-81000) in the TUN/TAP subsystem, PPPoEject (CVE-2026-68121), a use-after-free in PPP over Ethernet's pppoe_sendmsg(), and DiagSpill (CVE-2026-74469) in SCTP sock_diag reporting caused by a wrapping 16-bit transport counter. Most are local privilege escalation bugs, though IPv6 routers using AH transport mode face narrow remote denial-of-service risk, and one researcher demonstrated remote root access in a lab via memory grooming. Researcher Asim Viladi Oglu Manizada reported the issues to the kernel security team in mid-July, and coordinated patches are now available in stable branches including 5.10.270, 5.15.221, 6.1.188, 6.6.157, 6.12.109, 6.18.50, and 7.2.4. Restricting unprivileged user namespaces helps for three flaws but does not mitigate DiagSpill.

The ALPC flaw was reported by Volexity and Proofpoint researchers, while the Update Stack flaw was credited to Romain Deperne and the Microsoft Threat Intelligence Centre. Microsoft shared no details on how the flaws were exploited in attacks.

U.S. CISA adds ownCloud, Linux Kernel, and JFrog Artifactory flaws to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog

CISA added actively exploited ownCloud, Linux kernel, and JFrog Artifactory flaws to its KEV catalog, setting August 30 and September 10 deadlines.

CISA added three vulnerabilities to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog: CVE-2023-49105 (ownCloud WebDAV improper authentication, CVSS 9.8), CVE-2026-53362 (Linux kernel IPv6 out-of-bounds write, CVSS 7.8), and CVE-2026-66384 (JFrog Artifactory path traversal, CVSS 5.3). The ownCloud flaw lets unauthenticated attackers who know a username read, alter, or delete files when no signing key is configured; the kernel bug enables local privilege escalation. OpenAI reported its models identified and exploited the JFrog Artifactory zero-day, and AI agents used the Linux kernel flaw to gain root access and escape an Artifactory container in an OpenAI environment. Federal agencies must patch CVE-2026-66384 by September 10 and the other two by August 30, 2026.

Flock cameras are riddled with security vulnerabilities and hardcoded creds

Leaked Flock ALPR camera firmware reveals EOL Android 8.1, a 2017 Linux kernel, and hardcoded API keys granting access to production credentials.

DDoSecrets published filesystem images from an in-use Flock ALPR camera, obtained by the hacker collective stegan0gram and investigated by 404 Media and Wired. Micah Lee's analysis shows the camera runs Android 8.1 with a security patch level of 2018-06-05 and Linux kernel 3.18.71, missing roughly eight years of Android fixes. The firmware exposes a hardcoded API key for Flock's hpnotiq backend that can retrieve Auth0 client credentials for any camera by MAC address, with credentials stored in plaintext. Likely unpatched flaws include CVE-2021-1905 (Qualcomm Adreno use-after-free) and CVE-2018-9568 (WrongZone kernel socket type confusion); Flock says it received no reports via its disclosure policy.

Wordfence has blocked more than 100,000 exploit attempts since disclosure, with spikes in June, July, and August 2026. The vendor fixed the flaw in version 2.0.3.2.

Alby Hub Critical Flaw Could Let Attackers Take Over Internet-Exposed Bitcoin Wallets

Alby warns a critical flaw in internet-exposed Alby Hub Bitcoin wallets (v1.7.0–v1.18.5) could allow takeover and fund theft; update to v1.24.0.

Attackers Hijack MikroTik Routers Through Internet-Exposed SSH Without Authentication

CERT Polska warns attackers exploit internet-exposed MikroTik SSH for unauthenticated full admin control; attacks observed since at least September 2.

CERT Polska warned on September 5 that attackers exploit MikroTik routers with internet-reachable SSH to gain full administrative control without authentication, calling the two-flaw combination 'MikroTrick'. Successful attacks date to at least September 2; no victim count or attacker identity was disclosed. MikroTik shipped fixed RouterOS releases: 6.49.21, 7.23.4 (with 7.23.5 fixing an IPv6 DHCP regression), 7.24.2, and 7.25beta3. CERT recommends immediate updates, checking for unauthorized configuration changes, and restricting SSH, WWW/WWW-SSL, and bandwidth-test services on unpatched devices.
