Cisco Warns of Ongoing Exploitation of Critical Email Gateway Zero-Day

Cisco disclosed critical zero-day CVE-2026-76461 (CVSS 9.8) in Secure Email Gateway, remotely exploitable without authentication via crafted emails containing malicious SQL statements, leading to arbitrary command execution with root privileges. Revolut Data Leak May Trace Back to Compromised Italian Government Accounts

Attackers using a compromised Italian government PEC account impersonated law enforcement to obtain data on ~680 Revolut customers.

Revolut confirmed its systems were not breached; fraudulent data requests came from a compromised PEC mailbox tied to the Prefecture of Reggio Calabria on the pec.interno.it domain. Per the Financial Times, roughly 680 customers had identity documents, addresses, banking information, verification selfies and cryptocurrency transaction histories exposed. Researcher Korra of Duel described a 'spray and pray' operation using hundreds of crypto transaction IDs and fraudulent European Investigation Orders. Threat actor IAmNotAVillain claims six months of access and 147 GB exfiltrated from Italian law-enforcement systems, though this remains unverified.

Texas Utility CenterPoint Energy Confirms Data Breach After Hacker Claims 7.49M Records Stolen

CenterPoint Energy confirmed a breach after a hacker claimed stealing 7.49 million customer records, including partial Social Security numbers, via an unprotected API.

CenterPoint Energy disclosed in an SEC 8-K filing that an unauthorized third party obtained personal information of a portion of its customers through an external-facing system. A threat actor using the alias '4d722e4d656f77' claimed on a cybercrime forum to have extracted over 7.49 million records, including names, addresses, account numbers, billing data, and partial Social Security numbers, via an API lacking authentication, rate limiting, and WAF protection. The company confirmed the breach but not the record count; energy services were unaffected and the investigation is ongoing.

Shared Hosting at Risk: LiteSpeed Enterprise Bug Can Grant Root from a Single Tenant

Critical LiteSpeed Web Server Enterprise flaw (pre-6.3.7) lets a low-privilege shared-hosting tenant escape CageFS isolation and gain root; forced update urged.

cPanel warned that a critical privilege-escalation vulnerability in LiteSpeed Web Server Enterprise (fixed in 6.3.7) lets a malicious low-privilege website user bypass account isolation controls including CloudLinux CageFS and gain root on shared-hosting servers, enabling cross-tenant compromise. No CVE, severity rating, or technical details have been published, and it is unclear whether the flaw is being exploited. This is the third root-level LiteSpeed escape on cPanel servers since May, following CVE-2026-48172 and CVE-2026-54420, which were actively exploited and added to CISA's KEV catalog.

One Exploit Chain, Two Espionage Campaigns: Chrome and Windows Under Fire

Two China-linked APT groups reused identical Chrome/Windows zero-day chain against NGOs, deploying GRIMWIDGE backdoor and LONGTALE credential-stealing extension.

Volexity reports that China-linked actors UTA0560 and JungleBamboo (APT31/TA412) ran byte-identical Chrome/Windows exploit chains against NGOs starting September 1, 2026, combining Chrome type confusion CVE-2026-85046, WebAssembly sandbox escape CVE-2026-87491, and Windows kernel flaw CVE-2026-85880. The Chrome bug was fixed in Chromium source but not yet shipped to Chrome users, making it an effective zero-day with an unusual patch gap. UTA0560 delivered the in-memory GRIMWEDGE JScript backdoor, while JungleBamboo deployed the SUPERSTOMP loader installing LONGTALE, a malicious Chrome extension disguised as Google Gemini that steals cookies, session tokens, and keystrokes. Volexity assesses with low confidence the exploit chain was sold or shared among different Chinese end-users.

Telegram Desktop Flaw Could Turn Old Chat Exports Into Data Theft Traps

ExPatch disclosed stored XSS in Telegram Desktop HTML export letting bot messages steal chat data when exports open in browsers.

ExPatch researchers Denis and Aleksander Rostilov found a stored XSS flaw (CVSS 8.2) where bot inline keyboard button text was written unescaped into HTML chat exports, executing attacker JavaScript in browsers. The payload can persist in chat history for months, exfiltrate messages, metadata, and local file paths, and rewrite the page, spreading via forwarded messages without bot membership. Telegram fixed it by applying SerializeString(), first stable fixed release 7.0.1 shipped July 14, 2026, but HTML exports created with vulnerable versions remain dangerous.

Japan's Digital Agency disclosed that attackers exploited a medium-severity, already-patchable vulnerability in a VPN device to access the Government Solution Service (GSS), potentially leaking personal data of roughly 246,000 government employees, officials, and contractors across 23 ministries. The intrusion was detected on June 25 and confirmed as VPN exploitation on July 9, with public disclosure 78 days after detection. Exposed data includes about 236,000 names, 231,000 email addresses, 94,000 phone numbers, and 1,000 physical addresses; no My Number, bank account, or pension numbers were included. The compromised maintenance staff account was suspended and the compromised hardware isolated, but the VPN product and flaw were not disclosed.

ENISA's July 2026 paper 'ENISA's view on Cybersecurity in the Frontier AI Era' argues AI-assisted attackers may weaponize vulnerabilities within 15 minutes of disclosure and achieve initial-access-to-data-exfiltration in a median 72 minutes, creating a 'negative time-to-exploit' problem. The report cites one organisation whose CVE volume rose from roughly 80 in Q1 2025 to almost 500 in Q1 2026, then about 500 reports per day when frontier-AI tools were used. ENISA recommends machine-speed defence under 'Cybersecurity as Code', EPSS and VEX-based prioritisation, AI-assisted incident response with human oversight, and an assume-breached architecture.

U.S. CISA adds GitLab, JFrog Artifactory, and ConnectWise ScreenConnect flaws to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog

CISA added four actively exploited GitLab, JFrog Artifactory, and ConnectWise ScreenConnect flaws to the KEV catalog with imminent deadlines.

CISA added CVE-2026-42016 and CVE-2026-42018 (JFrog Artifactory), CVE-2026-84869 (ConnectWise ScreenConnect), and CVE-2026-85706 (GitLab, CVSS 10.0) to its KEV catalog. Artifactory flaws are being chained with CVE-2026-82329 in attacks observed August 15 to September 8, taking over self-hosted servers, creating persistent administrator accounts, and installing backdoors. ScreenConnect CVE-2026-84869 allows unauthorized file transfer and execution during remote sessions, linked by Huntress to malicious VBScript deliveries, and is fixed in version 26.6.5. GitLab's repository commits API path traversal exposes SSH keys, database credentials, deploy tokens, and CI/CD variables, with watchTowr already observing in-the-wild probes. Federal agencies must patch GitLab and ScreenConnect flaws by September 14, 2026, and Artifactory flaws by September 25, 2026.

Dutch NCSC Warns: Critical Check Point VPN Flaws Put Networks at Risk

Dutch NCSC warns two CVSS 9.8 Check Point VPN flaws enable unauthenticated RCE; patch and restrict access before exploitation begins.

The Dutch NCSC warns that CVE-2026-85102, a security-check bypass in the VPN negotiation process, and CVE-2026-85103, a heap overflow in the certificate ASN.1 decoder, both carry a CVSS score of 9.8 and allow unauthenticated remote code execution on Check Point Security Gateways and Security Management Servers. Check Point fixed the flaws on September 9 via advisories sk1000117 and sk1000118, covering R81.20, R82, R82.10, R81.10.x, R82.00.x plus end-of-support versions R80 through R81.10; R82.20 is unaffected. No public proof-of-concept exists, but the NCSC rates exploitation likelihood as high and recommends patching immediately via LivePatch Take 24 or Jumbo Hotfix and restricting VPN access to trusted IPs.
