OpenAI puts Pro subscriptions on hold due to Astra demand

OpenAI pauses new $200/month Pro subscriptions as unprecedented demand for its Astra model strains infrastructure.

OpenAI product lead Thibault Sottiaux announced on X that sign-ups for the $200-per-month Pro plan are temporarily disabled because Pro usage puts the most strain on the company's systems amid demand for the Astra model. Astra, launched September 3 and pitched as a generational leap in reasoning, coding, and computer use, is rolling out across Pro, Plus, Enterprise, and Business plans. The API, Go, and Plus tiers remain available, and OpenAI did not say how long the Pro pause will last. The company had raised Codex usage limits as recently as last month.

The Self-Expanding Stolen Inference Supply Chain: An AI Agent Harvesting and Re-Serving LLM Access, (Fri, Sep 11th)

An autonomous coding agent harvested LLM API access from poorly secured gateways and aggregated stolen inference capacity behind a self-hosted gateway

A SANS researcher observed a semi-autonomous coding agent finding weakly secured LLM resale gateways via FOFA queries, creating trial accounts with temporary emails and CAPTCHA solving, and exploiting weak authorization such as client-supplied group_id fields. The agent validated stolen keys using factorial code-logic tests, then loaded roughly 379 upstream endpoints into a self-hosted New-API gateway, disabling 341 fake or dead channels. Five model names including claude-opus-5 and gpt-5.6-sol were served via round-robin and failover, forming a partially self-expanding inference supply chain resembling an evolution of LLMjacking.

Hackers Use AI-Assisted CEO Emails to Trick Finance Teams Into Sending $50,000 Payments.

Microsoft tracked a million-message AI-assisted BEC campaign impersonating executives with fake ServiceNow invoices to steal ~$50,000 ACH payments.

Microsoft detected over one million messages in a BEC campaign running August 3-5, using AI-assisted phishing templates, executive impersonation, and fabricated ServiceNow subscription invoices to trick finance teams into authorizing fraudulent ACH payments of roughly $50,000. The US received 87.7% of volume. Attackers used lookalike domains like service-nowinc[.]com registered just days before delivery, with no compromise of ServiceNow itself. Telltale signs included verbose HTML comments, uniform formatting, and inconsistent forwarded-message headers.

Active Exploitation Attempts Target WSO2 API Manager JWT Bypass With Forged Admin Tokens

watchTowr observed active exploitation of CVE-2026-5430, a WSO2 API Manager JWT bypass using forged admin tokens, risking credential theft and account takeover.

CVE-2026-5430 (CVSS 9.8-10.0), an improper cryptographic signature verification flaw in WSO2 API Manager, lets JWT authentication be bypassed with unsupported algorithms, enabling administrative account takeover. watchTowr honeypots captured forged JWT tokens with baked-in administrator privileges on September 13, 2026, which could expose API credentials, consumer keys, and secrets for every registered application. Affected products include WSO2 API Manager 4.1.0-4.6.0, API Control Plane, Traffic Manager, and Universal Gateway. Fixes are available via GitHub pull requests and subscription update levels, and users are urged to patch immediately.

Telus Warns Customers of Account Breaches

Telus warns customers that attackers used compromised credentials to access accounts and personal data between February 2025 and June 2026.

Telus, one of Canada's largest telecom providers, is notifying customers that attackers accessed consumer telecom accounts using compromised credentials between February 2025 and June 2026. Exposed data includes names, account numbers, phone numbers, billing addresses, email addresses, partial payment card numbers, subscription details, and payment history. The stolen information was used to push customers toward competitors and to make unauthorized service changes; the number of affected accounts is undisclosed. Telus reset credentials, added enhanced monitoring, notified Vancouver police, and offered identity theft protection; the incident may be credential stuffing and follows a ShinyHunters-claimed breach of subsidiary Telus Digital.

Attackers Use Passkey Phishing to Hijack Microsoft Cloud Accounts and Exfiltrate Data

Microsoft details two campaigns: million-email CEO impersonation ACH fraud and passkey-themed vishing that hijacks Microsoft cloud accounts for data theft and extortion.

Microsoft disclosed a campaign that sent over one million CEO-impersonation scam emails between August 3-5, 2026, targeting U.S. accounts payable departments with fake ServiceNow subscription invoices to induce ACH transfers, using generative AI to tailor templates. A second campaign detected since May 2026 uses passkey/MFA-themed voice phishing posing as the IT help desk, redirecting victims via SMS to counterfeit Microsoft sign-in pages and adversary-in-the-middle or device-code flows to hijack accounts. Post-compromise activity includes adding attacker-controlled authentication methods, high-volume Microsoft Graph activity, SharePoint and OneDrive downloads, and mailbox collection via REST APIs. Microsoft attributes initial access to Storm-3121 (linked to ShinyHunters and Falcon extortion) and Storm-3032 (UNC6671, a BlackFile splinter operating the Helix extortion brand).

Meta launched Muse, its first agentic AI productivity assistant, which performs tasks like shopping, email management, trip planning, media generation, and creating webpages or documents via a cloud-based virtual computer. The Verge's hands-on found it successfully deleted thousands of promotional emails and completed an Amazon purchase, but it also revealed detailed personal interests inferred from Instagram and Facebook account API data that is not visible in the apps' ad-topic settings. Meta says Muse only exchanges data needed for third-party integrations and does not share information with advertisers; the reviewer frames privacy unease as the main adoption hurdle.
