Docker Sandboxes Vulnerabilities Let Malicious Guests Escape Workspace and Access Host Files

Docker fixed two symlink-race flaws in Docker Sandboxes, CVE-2026-77179 and CVE-2026-79994, letting malicious guests escape the workspace and read host files; fixed in 0.42.0.

Docker patched CVE-2026-77179 (Critical) and CVE-2026-79994 (High) in Docker Sandboxes 0.42.0, released September 7. Both are time-of-check-to-time-of-use symlink races: CVE-2026-77179 in the macOS virtio-fs host server (versions 0.28.0 to before 0.42.0) can allow a malicious guest to read or modify arbitrary host files and potentially achieve code execution, while CVE-2026-79994 in the guest-to-host Unix socket relay (0.37.0 to before 0.42.0) can redirect host connections to arbitrary AF_UNIX sockets. Docker recommends upgrading and, as interim mitigation, using clone mode and avoiding read-write host mounts.

Operation RapidRust: APT36 Deploys RUSTYSHADE, RUSTYMOVE, PSNATCH, and BASHNATCH

Zscaler details Operation RapidRust: APT36 deploys four new tools including RUSTYSHADE, a Rust backdoor using private GitHub repos for encrypted C2.

Zscaler ThreatLabz documents Operation RapidRust, a campaign by Pakistan-aligned APT36 deploying four new tools: RUSTYSHADE, a 64-bit Rust Windows backdoor that uses attacker-controlled private GitHub repositories with a hardcoded PAT and AES-256-GCM-encrypted messages for C2; RUSTYMOVE; PSNATCH, a PowerShell file stealer that scans Office documents, archives, media, and databases modified in the last 120 days and exfiltrates up to 5 GB per run to per-machine GitHub repositories; and BASHNATCH. The backdoor was dropped via PowerShell from attacker-controlled Backblaze B2 storage and supports screenshots, webcam capture, file listing, downloads, and shell command execution.

Parallels Desktop flaw hands any local user root on a Mac (CVE-2026-90894)

CVE-2026-90894 in Parallels Desktop for Mac lets any local user gain root via argument injection; patched in v27.0.0, PoC withheld.

JFrog researchers disclosed CVE-2026-90894, an argument injection flaw in Parallels Desktop for Mac v26.4.0 on Apple silicon that lets any local user gain root on the host. The chain combines a world-writable Unix socket for prl_disp_service (which runs as root), weak peer-credential authentication, and argument injection via --use-compress-program in the appliance extraction tar path. Alludo fixed the flaw in Parallels Desktop v27.0.0 in early September 2026; JFrog published technical details but withheld its proof-of-concept script.
