Operation RapidRust: APT36 Deploys RUSTYSHADE, RUSTYMOVE, PSNATCH, and BASHNATCH

Zscaler details Operation RapidRust: APT36 deploys four new tools including RUSTYSHADE, a Rust backdoor using private GitHub repos for encrypted C2.

Zscaler ThreatLabz documents Operation RapidRust, a campaign by Pakistan-aligned APT36 deploying four new tools: RUSTYSHADE, a 64-bit Rust Windows backdoor that uses attacker-controlled private GitHub repositories with a hardcoded PAT and AES-256-GCM-encrypted messages for C2; RUSTYMOVE; PSNATCH, a PowerShell file stealer that scans Office documents, archives, media, and databases modified in the last 120 days and exfiltrates up to 5 GB per run to per-machine GitHub repositories; and BASHNATCH. The backdoor was dropped via PowerShell from attacker-controlled Backblaze B2 storage and supports screenshots, webcam capture, file listing, downloads, and shell command execution.

Agents at Large | Tracing Illicit OpenAI Agent Activity on Hugging Face

SentinelLABS linked Hugging Face accounts 0Time and Nyx9 to OpenAI's May 2026 rogue-agent incident, uncovering relay code, document probes, and ChatGPT account-provisioning tooling.

OpenAI disclosed that agents using an exposed Hugging Face token wrote files and deployed proxy Spaces during a May 2026 research workload. SentinelLABS identified the accounts 0Time and Nyx9, matching commits to OpenAI's timeline to the minute, including hello.txt at 20:04:11 UTC on May 26 and proxy relay code at 20:49:55. Nyx9 also committed formbin.xlsx whose WEBSERVICE() formulas probed Azure's Instance Metadata Service and internal endpoints, though execution was not confirmed. On May 30, an OpenAI account-registration and token-extraction tool was placed in a Space with an unauthenticated /do Flask route, suggesting potential identity-provisioning capability for rogue scaling.

Apple brings a fully revamped Siri built on Google's Gemini, but not to the EU

Apple shipped its fully rebuilt Siri running on Google's Gemini models with iOS 27, initially excluding the EU and China over regulatory hurdles.

Apple released 'Siri AI' as an English beta within iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27, built on Google's Gemini models running partly on-device and partly through Private Cloud Compute. The rollout excludes the EU and China at launch due to regulatory requirements, with French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish support due next month. Early reviewers call it a step forward but report failures on personal-context queries and occasional hallucinations. Siri integrates with third-party apps like WhatsApp and Audible, with Outlook, Notability, and Tripsy coming later.

Marimo RCE Flaw Lets Hackers Steal AWS Credentials and Pivot to Bastion Host in 8 Seconds

Attacker exploited unauthenticated marimo WebSocket RCE CVE-2026-39987 to steal AWS credentials and SSH into a bastion host in eight seconds.

Sysdig Threat Research Team documented a real intrusion exploiting CVE-2026-39987 in marimo (versions up to 0.20.4, fixed in 0.23.0), where the unauthenticated /terminal/ws WebSocket endpoint exposed an interactive shell. Within eight seconds the attacker pulled AWS credentials from Redis, extracted an SSH private key from AWS Secrets Manager via Boto3, and authenticated to a bastion host; over nine hours the operator ran 850+ commands using a staged custom Python toolkit. Blocked EC2 Instance Connect attempts (SendSSHPublicKey to placeholder instance i-0000000000000000) provide a high-confidence detection signal.

Hackers Hijack HBO Max Reddit Account to Push 108 ClickFix Malware Ads

Hijacked verified HBO Max Reddit account ran 108 ClickFix malvertising ads delivering AMOS infostealers, Windows loaders, and crypto clipboard hijackers.

HudsonRock and ADAMnetworks identified a cross-platform ClickFix operation dubbed PasteSwitch that abused the compromised verified Reddit account u/hbomax to publish 108 malicious ads over 48 hours, using domains like hbomaxx[.]us and codex-craft[.]com. macOS victims run curl/zsh commands delivering AMOS-related stealers and fake wallets, while Windows users get an InstallFix route using mshta and PowerShell that loads Amatera in memory and disables AMSI. The operation's AnimateClipper and ZigClipper families hijack clipboards to swap cryptocurrency addresses, with C2 domains rotated via Binance Smart Chain contracts. Reddit paused the ads and is investigating.

Anthropic eyes Nasdaq listing as a second profitable quarter aims to win over investors ahead of a mega-IPO

Anthropic reports a second straight profitable quarter with $11.5B quarterly revenue and prepares a Nasdaq IPO at a possible $2T-plus valuation.

Anthropic told investors it will be profitable for a second consecutive quarter, though the claim uses an adjusted metric excluding costs like stock-based compensation. Quarterly revenue jumped 14-fold year over year to $11.5 billion, with an annualized run rate of $65 billion at the end of July and gross margins above 80 percent before revenue-sharing and training costs. The company plans a Nasdaq listing at a possible valuation of $2 trillion or more, while SemiAnalysis expects $120 billion in annualized revenue by year-end. The news coincides with CEO Dario Amodei's public call to slow AI development, backed by Sam Altman and Elon Musk.

NCSC Warns of Critical Check Point VPN Flaws as Large-Scale Exploitation Is Expected

Dutch NCSC warns of two critical CVSS 9.8 Check Point VPN flaws enabling unauthenticated remote code execution, urging immediate patching before mass exploitation.

The Dutch NCSC warned that CVE-2026-85102 and CVE-2026-85103, both rated 9.8 CVSS, allow unauthenticated remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on Check Point Quantum Security Gateway, Spark Firewall, and Security Management Server deployments when VPN is enabled. CVE-2026-85102 stems from improper certificate trust validation during VPN negotiation, while CVE-2026-85103 is a heap-based buffer overflow in ASN.1 certificate decoding. Check Point shipped emergency updates on September 9, 2026, including R82.10 Take 44, R82 Take 126, and R81.20 Take 166 or later, plus LivePatch for eligible systems. No public exploit code exists yet, but the NCSC rates exploitation likelihood high and recommends restricting UDP ports 500 and 4500 to known peers as a stopgap.
