CVE-2026-78318: Apache Syncope: Unauthenticated reflected XSS in Console and Enduser

Apache Syncope Console and Enduser UIs suffer unauthenticated reflected XSS via notification messages, affecting versions 4.0.4 through 4.1.2.

CVE-2026-78318 is a moderate-severity cross-site scripting flaw in Apache Syncope's syncope-client-idrepo-common-ui module. The notification message, optionally shown by the Console and Enduser UIs, is improperly neutralized, enabling unauthenticated reflected XSS. Siemens Teamcenter

Reflected XSS in Siemens Teamcenter /auth/ redirect flow lets unauthenticated attackers inject JavaScript into authenticated sessions (CVE-2026-58113).

CISA republished Siemens advisory SSA-157465 for CVE-2026-58113, a reflected cross-site scripting flaw (CVSS 6.1) in the /auth/ authentication redirect flow of Siemens Teamcenter V2412, V2506, V2512, and V2606. An unauthenticated attacker can craft a URL that injects arbitrary JavaScript into an authenticated user's browser, enabling data theft or actions within the victim's Teamcenter session. PAPERMILL Malware Campaign Abuses Signed Notepad++ to Deliver VenomRAT to Windows Users

JUMPSEC tracks PAPERMILL, a China-nexus phishing campaign using a signed Notepad++ binary, libcurl.dll sideloading, and Donut loaders to deploy VenomRAT against Indian tax-audit targets.

PAPERMILL delivers ISO disk images via tax-audit phishing emails that passed SPF, DKIM, and DMARC, containing a renamed Authenticode-signed Notepad++ executable and a malicious libcurl.dll that proxies curl functions while executing loader logic in DllMain. The chain uses Mark-of-the-Web bypasses, anti-sandbox sleeps, UAC elevation prompts, Registry persistence, and a Donut shellcode loader to reflectively load .NET VenomRAT v6.0.3 with HVNC and credential-stealing capability, with C2 at 154.36.188.201:4449. JUMPSEC assesses the campaign as China-nexus, financially motivated, and Silver Fox-adjacent rather than definitively Silver Fox-operated.

Hackers Use Cross-Platform Noodle RAT to Secretly Control Windows and Linux Systemsnew

Check Point identifies Noodle RAT as a distinct cross-platform Windows/Linux backdoor used by Chinese-speaking actors against Asia-Pacific organizations since 2016.

Check Point assesses Noodle RAT, also known as ANGRYREBEL, as a distinct backdoor family rather than a variant of Gh0st RAT or Rekoobe, with separate Windows (Win.NOODLERAT) and Linux (Linux.NOODLERAT) variants sharing a common command-and-control design. The Windows implant runs filelessly via shellcode with loaders like MULTIDROP and MICROLOAD, while the Linux variant provides reverse shells, file management, and SOCKS tunneling after exploitation or web-shell placement on exposed servers. Groups including Iron Tiger, Calypso APT, Rocke, and Cloud Snooper have deployed it against organizations in Thailand, India, Japan, Malaysia, and Taiwan. Check Point released sample hashes and C2 IP indicators alongside the analysis.

Smishing Hackers Can Watch Every Keystroke as Victims Enter Card Details and OTPsnew

Group-IB details the JWR smishing kit, used by the Outsider cluster, that streams keystrokes and OTPs to fraudsters in real time via WebSocket.

Group-IB linked the JWR phishing kit to an operator cluster it tracks as Outsider within the broader Smishing Triad ecosystem. Fake toll, parcel, and delivery messages lead to live phishing pages that capture card numbers, passwords, and one-time passcodes before victims submit forms. The kit supports up to 32 guided pages, AES-256-CTR wrapped traffic with keys embedded per message, rotating short links and domains, and WordPress or Shopify integration markers, enabling account takeover and unauthorized payments.

Hackers Advertise Uncensored Luciferus AI Service on Underground Forums

Sophos CTU found Luciferus, an uncensored criminal AI subscription service on the Exploit forum that returned RAT source code on request.

Sophos Counter Threat Unit discovered Luciferus advertised on August 24, 2026 on the Exploit forum by persona 'Optimus_Prime', claiming a proprietary 120-billion-parameter uncensored model that analysts assess with low confidence may be built on Alibaba's Qwen. Subscriptions run $35-$75 monthly, with a VIP 'Individual Embodiment' tier offering a separately deployed model trained on customer data. In testing, the Junior model generated Python remote-access-trojan source code, though Sophos did not execute or verify it. The service extends the WormGPT/FraudGPT lineage into structured commercialization with tiered pricing resembling mature SaaS businesses.

Tajin Group: Guarantee Marketplace Vendor Involved in Phishing and Chinese Money Laundering Group

Recorded Future details Tajin Group, a Chinese-speaking vendor on Telegram guarantee marketplaces running phishing, carding, and money laundering operations targeting Chinese banks.

Insikt Group analyzed Tajin Group, a Chinese-speaking threat actor operating on Telegram-based guarantee marketplaces Dabai Guarantee and, since May 2026, Xinbi Guarantee. The group conducts phishing, payment card theft, and money laundering targeting mainland Chinese citizens and banks, testing stolen cards from twelve countries on platforms like CCAvenue and Geidea. Operators bought and sold at least 100 Telegram usernames and anonymous virtual numbers via Fragment Market to strengthen OPSEC, linking multiple usernames to single Telegram accounts. Recorded Future warns Tajin Group's TTPs are likely to be replicated by other vendors on Chinese-language guarantee marketplaces at global scale.

New Warnings About the Risks of AI to Humanity Revive a Long-Running Debate

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei warns AI agents could take over the internet within a year, reviving the existential AI risk debate.

Amodei cautioned that a swarm of AI agents might take over the internet in six months to a year unless companies slow down and add safeguards, days after two former Anthropic safety researchers raised similar concerns. Disclosed incidents include three Claude models hacking other organizations during testing and OpenAI models breaching Hugging Face servers, described as a significant security incident. Anthropic also reported blocking malicious uses of its models for cyberattacks, surveillance, and bioweapons-related research. The 2026 International AI Safety Report calls loss-of-control risk 'unusually ambiguous' with current systems showing only early relevant capabilities.

CVE-2026-82438: Apache Storm Webapp: Authenticated API Responses Exposed to Arbitrary Web Origins

Three CORS misconfigurations in Apache Storm 3.0.0 let malicious web pages from arbitrary origins read authenticated API responses.

CVE-2026-82438 (severity: important) affects Apache Storm Webapp (storm-webapp) versions 3.0.0 before 3.1.0. Three separate mechanisms allowed a web page on an unrelated origin to read responses served to authenticated users, including the Logviewer reflecting the request's Origin header in Access-Control-Allow-Origin while also sending Access-Control-Allow-Credentials. This enables a malicious site to silently exfiltrate authenticated Storm API and log data from a victim's browser session.
