Two Arrests, One Supply-Chain Attack, and a Lot of Stolen Credentials

Four malware families were deployed: CanisterWorm (cloud token harvesting), SANDCLOCK (AWS and Kubernetes credential theft), Mini Shai-Hulud (self-replicating npm/PyPI worm), and Miasma (credential-harvesting worm variant). Trojanized tools included Trivy, KICS, LiteLLM, and the Telnyx Python SDK, with exfiltration via GitHub repositories tpcp-docs and docs-tpcp.

Critical Flaw in NASA/JPL Open-Source Spacecraft Command Software Allowed Unauthenticated Command Execution

NASA/JPL's AIT-GUI web console (CVSS 9.4) lacked authentication and CSRF protection, letting anyone send unauthenticated commands to spacecraft instruments; fixed in 2.5.2.

Cycode researchers found that AIT-GUI, the browser console of NASA/JPL's open-source AMMOS Instrument Toolkit, ran an HTTP server with no authentication, no session checks, and no CSRF protection on state-changing endpoints, allowing arbitrary commands to spacecraft instruments. The issue combines four weaknesses: binding to 0.0.0.0 regardless of configured host, missing authentication, missing CSRF defense, and path traversal in the /seq and /script/run endpoints. Tracked as GHSA-p9r8-2q67-fp86 with CVSS 9.4, it is fixed in AIT-GUI 2.5.2. The findings came from AI-assisted code analysis confirmed with working proofs-of-concept, including a headless-browser CSRF demonstration.

Critical unauthenticated RCE zero-day CVE-2026-75650 (StyleSmuggler) in Adobe Commerce and Magento is actively exploited; Adobe shipped hotfix VULN-39341 on September 7.

CVE-2026-75650 is a CVSS 10.0 unauthenticated remote code execution flaw in Adobe Commerce 2.4.4-2.4.9, Adobe Commerce B2B 1.3.3-1.5.3, and Magento Open Source 2.4.6-2.4.9, exploited via malicious style properties that inject PHP code executed through a transactional email template. Active exploitation began September 4, 2026, three days before Adobe released Hotfix VULN-39341 (APSB26-146) on September 7, with multiple victim stores confirmed by Sansec and Disrex across at least two distinct campaigns. Attackers deploy a persistent implant at ~/.local/share/.gvfsd/gvfsd-user masquerading as kworker, fc-cache, or chronyd, sustained by a cron job, while a second operator dropped a PHP web shell in product image caches. Tenable classified it as a Vulnerability of Interest; it is not yet in CISA KEV as of September 8, and Adobe also recommends rotating encryption keys and all protected credentials.

An Empirical Security Analysis of Open-Source Software Used in Onboard Satellite Systems

Study of 126 onboard satellite OSS repositories finds 2,827 security findings, 72% medium severity or higher, dominated by memory safety and code quality weaknesses.

Researchers performed an empirical security analysis of 126 public repositories of open-source software used in onboard satellite systems using SBOM generation, software composition analysis, static application security testing, infrastructure-as-code analysis, and secret scanning. After cleaning and deduplication the pipeline produced 2,827 findings, with medium-severity findings accounting for 49% and 72% classified medium or higher. A CWE-based taxonomy mapped all findings to eight weakness families, with Memory Safety and Code Quality dominating, followed by Input Validation and Injection. Project-developed code accounted for 81.4% of findings, though external dependency code remained relevant; findings do not establish mission-specific exploitability.

GoldFactory Weaponizes Open-Source Vwork App Cloner in Gigabud Banking Malware Attacks

Group-IB says GoldFactory's Gigabud Android trojan uses Vwork, a weaponized Shelter fork, to clone banking apps into isolated Work Profiles and evade bank-side detection.

Group-IB's 'Hook for Gold' investigation found GoldFactory ships Vwork, a modified fork of the open-source Shelter app, alongside its Gigabud Android banking trojan, active since 2022. Vwork abuses Android Work Profile provisioning to clone banking apps into an isolated environment, weakening the link between detected malware signals and fraudulent transactions. Gigabud has targeted victims in Southeast Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, Africa, and beyond via fake airline, tax, and government apps requesting Accessibility and overlay permissions. In Indonesia, telemetry recorded about 1,469 compromised devices and roughly $960,939 in estimated losses between February and July 2026.

Palo Alto Unit 42 analyzed new FrostyGoop/BUSTLEBERM samples, the ninth known ICS-centric malware, first used against a Ukrainian municipal energy company by sending Modbus TCP commands to ENCO control devices. The attack caused a two-day heating outage affecting over 600 apartment buildings during sub-zero temperatures. The Go-compiled malware accepts Modbus register operations and timing parameters via command-line arguments or a JSON configuration file, uses an obscure open-source Modbus library, and checks the Windows BeingDebugged flag to evade debuggers. Unit 42 telemetry recorded over 1 million Modbus TCP devices exposed to the internet between September and October 2024.

An Open-Source End-to-End FHE Implementation for Privacy-Preserving Llama 3 8B Inference

Odin is an open-source end-to-end GPU CKKS implementation for privacy-preserving Llama-3-8B inference that co-designs ciphertext packing with model execution. A feature-major cross-layer layout unifies residual connections and layer interfaces, while transient intra-operator layouts serve linear projections and attention, avoiding intermediate repacking of QK^T softmax outputs. Minimax polynomial approximation with input-range control reduces polynomial degree and multiplicative depth for nonlinear ops. With 128-token input, Odin evaluates all 32 Transformer layers on one NVIDIA H100 80 GB in 366.4 s using 58.9 GiB peak memory, versus 1651.9 s for the THOR baseline, a 4.51x speedup.
