Ivanti Patches Critical Flaws Across Enterprise Security Products

Ivanti released September updates fixing six critical RCE flaws in Neurons for ITSM plus authentication bypasses in Sentry and EPMM; no exploitation seen.

Ivanti's September 2026 updates fix eight flaws in Neurons for ITSM, six of them critical remote code execution bugs with CVSS scores up to 9.9, including missing authorization issues (CVE-2026-12647, CVE-2026-12645, CVE-2026-12646) and deserialization flaws (CVE-2026-12650, CVE-2026-12744, CVE-2026-12745). Sentry releases R10.8.2, R10.7.3, and R10.6.4 patch CVE-2026-83527, an unauthenticated high-severity authentication bypass, while EPMM versions 12.10.0.0, 12.9.0.2, and 12.8.0.4 fix the authenticated bypass CVE-2026-18851. Ivanti says it is not aware of any exploitation in the wild. Citrix separately patched two medium-severity flaws in Workspace app for Windows.

AI will not fix a governance problem in your camera estate

Hikvision EMEA security director argues camera estates need governance, recovery controls, and secure-by-default settings rather than AI fixes.

Rob Janssens, EMEA Cyber Security Director at Hikvision Europe, discusses securing surveillance camera estates whose lifecycles outlive their installers, leaving lost documentation and admin credentials. He advocates secure-by-default settings such as mandatory password activation, login-failure monitoring, IP filtering, and controlled SSH access, and argues customers should be able to recover control without the original integrator. He distinguishes secure-by-design from secure-by-default, recommends VPNs and network segmentation over disabling controls, and weighs European requirements like source code escrow and country-of-origin rules.

GentleKiller targets more than 400 security processes across 48 products

ESET details the Gentlemen ransomware gang's in-house GentleKiller EDR-killer framework targeting over 400 security processes across 48 products, supplied to affiliates.

ESET analyzed the Gentlemen ransomware gang's in-house GentleKiller EDR-killer framework, confirmed through an internal data leak from May 2026. The framework has at least eight variants impersonating legitimate security products and abusing vulnerable or malicious kernel drivers, targeting more than 400 process names across 48 security products. Gentlemen emerged in late 2025, became one of the five most active ransomware gangs in Q1 2026, offers affiliates a 90% ransom share, and practices double extortion using Go-based and C-based ESXi encryptors. The suite also reuses outside tools including HexKiller, ThrottleBlood, and HavocKiller, unified by a shared evasion layer that mimics well-known security vendors.

Unmasking Cloud Identities: From Behavioral Clustering to Automated Detection

Unit 42 clusters behavior of 40,000+ AWS identities from 125 cloud environments to map functional roles and enable lightweight SQL-based detection.

Palo Alto Unit 42 built an unsupervised behavioral clustering model using UMAP and HDBSCAN on AWS CloudTrail logs to map cloud identities to functional roles such as administrators, backup services, security tooling and DevOps. The study analyzed over 40,000 identities across 125 cloud environments over two months. The researchers show that heuristics extracted from the clustering map can be implemented in standard SQL, enabling role classification at scale without running a continuous ML pipeline. The methodology extends to audit logs from other cloud providers, SaaS and Kubernetes.

Rogue ScreenConnect Installations Across Unrelated Hosts Suggest Worm-Like Activity

Huntress observed rogue ScreenConnect deployments with worm-like VBScript propagation across unrelated organizations, prompting a ConnectWise advisory on file transfer behavior.

Huntress identified multiple incidents in late August 2026 where social engineering led to rogue ScreenConnect remote access clients deployed on victim machines, which then spawned wscript.exe to run four VBScript payloads (1.vbs through 4.vbs) for profiling, telemetry collection, and persistence via a WindowsServiceHost Run key. Modified ScreenConnect clients propagated the VBScript chain to connected endpoints, creating worm-like spread. ConnectWise published an advisory on September 3, 2026, confirming an issue affecting file transfer behavior in both cloud and on-premises ScreenConnect deployments, with a CVE and fix expected within the week; partners were advised to review and disable TransferFiles permissions in the interim.

CISA review makes the case for eliminating vulnerability classes

CISA's FY2024-2025 vulnerability review urges eliminating recurring vulnerability classes, finding 41.5% of 2025 KEV entries map to persistent 'stubborn weaknesses'.

CISA's Vulnerability Review for fiscal years 2024 and 2025 found most compromises stemmed from opportunistic exploitation of known, exposed vulnerabilities rather than nation-state zero-days or advanced tradecraft. The review found 41.5% of 2025 KEV catalog entries map to 'stubborn weaknesses' - injection flaws, improper input validation, memory-safety failures, path traversal and broken access control - recurring on the CWE Top 25 since 2019. CISA advocates Secure by Design practices, vulnerability class elimination, and buyer-driven 'Secure by Demand' contract requirements, while warning that AI-enabled vulnerability discovery will soon accelerate exploitation.

Severity Is Not a Strategy: What CISA BOD 26-04 Means for the Future of Federal Software Security

CISA's BOD 26-04 replaces severity-based federal patching with risk-based remediation deadlines of 3, 14, or 60 days.

CISA's Binding Operational Directive 26-04, released June 10, 2026, replaces BOD 19-02 and BOD 22-01 for Federal Civilian Executive Branch agencies and shifts remediation prioritization from CVSS scores to risk context. Agencies assess four factors: public exposure, KEV listing, exploit automatability, and whether exploitation grants partial or total asset control, resulting in 3-, 14-, or 60-day remediation windows or next-upgrade fixes. In CISA's first review at a large civilian agency, only 1% of vulnerabilities required three-day remediation while over 60% could wait for future system upgrades. The directive also requires forensic analysis when exploitation is suspected, and Checkmarx argues the same risk-based logic must extend upstream into software development and SBOM-driven exposure management.
