One Extension Could Hijack AI Assistants Across Chrome, Comet, Edge, Opera Neon and Claude

Researchers showed a single browser extension could hijack AI agents in Chrome, Edge, Comet, Opera Neon and Claude in Chrome, earning $20,000 in bounties.

Forever Security demonstrated that a browser extension with two common permissions could seize the trusted page controlling built-in AI assistants in five Chromium-based products and drive the agent, read local files, or access the camera. Chrome's flaw was fixed as CVE-2026-0628 (CVSS 8.8) in Chrome 143.0.7499.192, and Microsoft fixed CVE-2026-55945 (CVSS 4.2) in Edge 150.0.4078.48. Perplexity Comet was the worst case: a hijacked agent could read any file, leak browsing history, take screenshots, and act as the user via an unsecured test subdomain. All attacks require a malicious extension already installed; no in-the-wild exploitation or KEV listing was reported as of September 16, 2026.

Four Nation-State Actors Used the Same Chrome Zero-Day Exploit Kit Within 12 Days

Proofpoint reports four nation-state actors, mostly China-nexus, adopted the BlueMoon Chrome and Windows zero-day exploit kit within 12 days, targeting US organizations.

Proofpoint tracked an exploit kit dubbed BlueMoon that chains CVE-2026-85046, a Chrome V8 type-confusion bug, with an unnamed V8 sandbox escape and CVE-2026-85880, a Windows kernel privilege escalation using ALPC and the Windows Notification Facility. The first observed use was by China-nexus TA412 (APT31, Violet Typhoon, JungleBamboo) on August 28, 2026 against US NGOs, mining companies, and commodity trading firms, followed by UNK_LateNight targeting US aerospace and defense companies on September 2. Both V8 bugs were patch-gap zero-days: the fix was committed to Chromium on August 7 but reached stable Chrome on September 3, enabling rapid weaponization from public patches. TA412's post-exploitation payload, GemStone, is a malicious browser extension posing as an AI-powered Google Gemini companion that captures keystrokes, cookies, screenshots, and browsing history via a Cloudflare Worker C2.

Hackers abused Claude to extract secrets from 1.8M Android apps

Anthropic reports ShinyHunters, Midnight Blizzard, and GTG-10007 misused Claude to automate credential theft, malware operations, and espionage against dozens of victims.

Anthropic's threat report details how ShinyHunters member 'frkoo' ran a credential-harvesting pipeline on ten AWS EC2 workers that mass-downloaded and decompiled 1.8 million Android APKs, scanning for hardcoded secrets with TruffleHog. In one AI-assisted operation, an actor extracted 2,100+ Azure AD authentication tokens across more than 40 Microsoft tenants in roughly 34 hours, and ShinyHunters affiliates also stole AI API keys and breached a SaaS provider affecting about 200 downstream customers. Russian espionage group Midnight Blizzard used Claude Code skills to automate malware development, phishing, C2, and exfiltration against 20+ government and defense entities, rebuilding malware automatically when detected. Chinese-linked GTG-10007 ran autonomous vulnerability research that uncovered zero-days in a major endpoint security product and hit roughly 50 organizations with confirmed compromises; Anthropic disrupted the abuse and banned the accounts.

Suno releases its first AI music model made with record industry help

Suno released its v6 music model family (v6, v6-wild, v6-mini), the first trained with licensed data from Warner Music Group, BMG, and Believe.

Suno's v6 comes in three variants: v6, the more unpredictable v6-wild, and resource-light v6-mini offered free to all users. The model was trained from the ground up on a new dataset including licensed content from Warner Music Group, BMG, and Believe, plus user data, though it is unclear if all dubiously obtained content was excluded. v6 shows dramatically improved genre fidelity, adds plain-language chat editing of individual song elements, multi-element mashups, and prompts based on images, video, or audio. The Verge notes it still cannot produce intentional imperfections like off-key vocals, and v6 starts rolling out now with older models eventually retired.

Most of the bugs Claude Mythos found have never been checked by a human

Echo's analysis found only 1,900 of 23,019 Claude Mythos-found vulnerabilities were externally reviewed, 90.8% held up, but the model overstated most severities.

Echo analyzed results from Anthropic's Claude Mythos Preview vulnerability sweep across 281 open-source projects, which produced 23,019 candidate vulnerabilities, of which only 1,900 were externally reviewed. Of those, 90.8% held up as real, 1,451 of 1,596 maintainer reports were acknowledged, 97 fixes landed upstream, and 88 became advisories, but 14 of the 27 CVE-assigned severity ratings mismatched independent scoring, mostly overstated. On Anthropic's SpiderMonkey benchmark, Claude Mythos turned known crashes into working code execution exploits in 72.4% of 250 trials, versus below 1% for Claude Opus 4.6. Echo cautions the reviewed sample likely was not randomly drawn, so the accuracy figure may not generalize to the other 21,119 unreviewed candidates.

Claude's new system prompt really doesn't want to reproduce song lyrics

Anthropic published updated Claude consumer system prompts, including changes steering the model away from reproducing song lyrics, likely over copyright concerns.

Anthropic publishes system prompts for Claude.ai and Claude mobile apps, including historic revisions, and has reorganized them into an index with per-model pages such as the Haiku 4.5 page showing the original October 15, 2025 prompt and an updated January 18, 2026 version. The latest consumer prompt strongly discourages reproducing song lyrics, a behavioral constraint likely tied to copyright considerations. Prompts for Claude Cowork and Claude Code are not included in the published set.
