ZDI-26-669: Adobe Acrobat Reader DC JBIG2 File Parsing Out-Of-Bounds Read Information Disclosure Vulnerability

ZDI advisory ZDI-26-669 details an out-of-bounds read (CVE-2026-81978) when Adobe Acrobat Reader DC parses JBIG2 files.

The Zero Day Initiative published advisory ZDI-26-669 for an out-of-bounds read triggered when Acrobat Reader DC parses JBIG2 files. Successful exploitation allows a remote attacker to disclose sensitive information from affected installations. User interaction is required, such as opening a malicious file or visiting a malicious page. ZDI rated the issue 3.3 and assigned CVE-2026-81978.

New Passkey Attacks Can Recover Synced Private Keys or Bypass Phishing

Three research teams showed passkey bypasses: WebAuthn assertion replay in Microsoft Entra ID, synced-passkey key recovery in Google Password Manager, and Windows Hello key reuse.

SpecterOps' Pass-the-Passkey research showed Windows stored past YubiKey signatures in cleartext and chained this with Microsoft Entra ID passkey validation weaknesses to impersonate privileged users despite phishing-resistant MFA; the Windows Event Logging Service issue is tracked as CVE-2026-34348 (CVSS 6.5) and fixed in July 2026 updates. Unit 42's Golden Pass-ta-key attack recovered the 32-byte Security Domain Secret protecting Google Password Manager synced passkeys from Chrome on Windows via pre-existing malware. Dirk-jan Mollema showed in-session malware can use a hardware-bound Windows Hello for Business key without a fresh PIN or biometric check. Microsoft applied Entra-side mitigations for the relay assertion issue; no real-world exploitation has been reported.

UK Government Begins Moving 23 Million Users Away From Passwords

UK government rolls out passkeys for GOV.UK One Login, giving 23 million users phishing-resistant passwordless access to public services.

The UK government has begun deploying passkeys across GOV.UK One Login for more than 23 million users, replacing passwords and SMS one-time codes with FIDO2 cryptographic credentials. A trial saw over 300,000 people adopt passkeys, and nearly one in ten daily authentications already use them, cutting SMS verification costs by almost £600 per day. Passkeys remain optional, with password-based sign-in retained as a fallback, and the NCSC endorses the approach as phishing-resistant.

IT Help Desk Impersonation Lets Hackers Bypass MFA

Arctic Wolf tracks PREY-0058 posing as IT help desk to steal Microsoft 365 sessions via AiTM panels, then extorting executives after SaaS data theft.

Arctic Wolf documented a threat cluster tracked as PREY-0058 that impersonates internal IT help desk staff by phone, luring Directors, VPs, and executives to authentication-themed URLs formatted as victim-organization lure domains. Adversary-in-the-middle panels intercept credentials and MFA approvals, and stolen sessions are replayed through residential proxies such as NodeMaven from IPs matching the victim's geo-location and ASN, defeating impossible-travel alerts. Attackers perform discovery against SharePoint and Entra ID, then harvest data from OneDrive, Exchange, and Box before issuing extortion demands. Defenders are advised to require managed devices, use phishing-resistant MFA like FIDO2, enable Continuous Access Evaluation, and monitor sign-ins, SharePoint SearchQueryPerformed, and MailItemsAccessed events.

ZDI-26-692: Linux Kernel eMPIA USB Device Driver Race Condition Code Execution Vulnerability

ZDI-26-692: race condition in Linux kernel eMPIA USB driver (CVE-2026-31583) lets physically present attackers execute code without authentication; CVSS 7.1.

ZDI advisory ZDI-26-692 discloses a race condition in the Linux kernel's eMPIA USB device driver that allows physically present attackers to execute arbitrary code on affected installations. Authentication is not required, but physical access to the target system is necessary. ZDI assigned a CVSS rating of 7.1 and CVE-2026-31583.

iceener/files-stdio-mcp-server: sandbox escape in fs_search via a symlinked directory (recursive walker validates only the top level)

iceener/files-stdio-mcp-server allows a read-side sandbox escape: fs_search follows symlinked directories while the recursive walker validates confinement only at the top level.

A vulnerability report describes a read-side sandbox escape in iceener/files-stdio-mcp-server, an MCP server for text-based file access that explicitly promises 'Sandboxed filesystem access. Only these paths are available'. The fs_search tool can follow symlinked directories outside the allowed paths, and the recursive directory-listing walker used by fs_search (and by fs_read) validates confinement only at the top level. The same flaw affects fs_read's directory-listing walker. No CVE identifier was assigned in the provided report text.

Hackers Use Blob URLs and Microsoft Teams to Create Phishing Pages Inside Victims’ Browsers

Barracuda details a phishing campaign using Microsoft Teams OAuth redirects and browser blob URLs to render local fake DocuSign login pages for credential theft.

Barracuda researchers identified an active phishing campaign that routes DocuSign-themed emails with calendar invites through a Microsoft OAuth endpoint and crafted redirects into Microsoft Teams, then renders a fake sign-in page via a browser-generated blob URL. Because the page is assembled locally in memory and can register service workers and run in a sandboxed iframe, URL-reputation checks largely see legitimate Microsoft domains. The goal is credential theft and account takeover, not a flaw in Teams itself.

RenderFormer-V2: Neural Rendering with Heterogeneous Scene Primitives

RenderFormer-V2 is a transformer-based neural renderer handling caustics, volumetric scattering and out-of-distribution materials without per-scene training or specialized code.

RenderFormer-V2 is a learned transformer-based neural rendering model that models global light transport as a sequence-to-sequence transformation, handling caustics, volumetric scattering, environment lighting, textured and displaced surfaces and out-of-distribution materials. It uses a two-stage process: a view-independent stage resolving primitive-to-primitive transport, and a view-dependent stage converting the neural scene representation into pixels. Improvements include combined windowed-attention with a rendering-informed attention sink for scalability, support for heterogeneous primitives like environment maps and participating media, and a surface-reflectance-independent neural material encoding, validated across diverse scenes with extensive ablations.

Credential Theft: How Attackers Steal & Use Stolen Credentials

Huntress explains how attackers steal credentials through phishing, AitM, infostealers, and dumping, then use them for lateral movement, BEC, and ransomware.

Huntress published an educational overview of credential theft, citing that roughly 70% of confirmed data breaches begin with stolen credentials. It details acquisition methods including phishing, adversary-in-the-middle attacks that capture MFA session tokens, infostealers (nearly a quarter of threats Huntress observed in 2025), Mimikatz-based credential dumping, credential stuffing, and password spraying. The piece then covers post-theft actions such as lateral movement, privilege escalation, account takeover, business email compromise, and ransomware, and closes with behavioral detection guidance and layered prevention strategies.

CosmoH2G: A Hand-to-Gripper Transfer Dataset and Baseline Method for Object Manipulation with Complex Spatial Movements

Researchers release CosmoH2G, a 6,189-episode hand-to-gripper dataset with a two-stage method for complex spatial robot manipulation.

The paper introduces a scalable acquisition pipeline using a handheld gripper to collect paired hand-gripper demonstrations, producing 6,189 episodes across 1,254 unique objects with higher spatial complexity than existing benchmarks. A two-stage framework first predicts sparse gripper keyframes (initial and terminal), then generates the full continuous action sequence conditioned on them, while learning gripper orientation and post-optimizing translation via grasping heuristics and kinematic consistency. Simulation and real-robot experiments show stable, precise hand-to-gripper transfer of complex spatial manipulations, outperforming traditional baselines.

Fly Language Model (FLM) Wires the Full Fruit Fly Connectome Into a Frozen 1.2B LLM, and Its Own Controls Show the Wiring Does Not Help

Researchers wire the full fruit fly connectome (166,700 nodes) into a frozen LiquidAI LFM2.5-1.2B LLM, but controls show no fly-specific benefit.

The Fly Language Model (FLM) couples the complete MaleCNS v1.0 fruit fly connectome (166,700 nodes, 25,582,938 edges) to a frozen LiquidAI LFM2.5-1.2B-Instruct backbone, training only a 278,528-parameter readout (~0.0238% of backbone parameters). The fly readout improved NLL by 0.0222 nats/token (perplexity 3.98 to 3.90) on 32 SmolTalk dialogues, but a direct-input control without the graph beat it in all three seeds. Relabeling node identities removes the gain and the recurrence contracts state differences by 0.6 per token, so the connectome adds no long-range memory. The MIT-licensed code runs locally on Python 3.12, but study artifacts remain private, limiting independent reproducibility.

StyleSmuggler: The Magento Zero-Day Behind New Store Attacks

Sansec reports actively exploited Magento/Adobe Commerce zero-day StyleSmuggler enabling unauthenticated RCE and Rust backdoor installation on fully patched stores since September 4.

Sansec discovered StyleSmuggler, an unpatched zero-day in Magento Open Source and Adobe Commerce, affecting all current versions including 2.4.7, 2.4.8 and 2.4.9, with attacks observed since September 4. The two-stage attack poisons Magento's template system via the styles property and executes the injected PHP during 'Payment Transaction Failed Reminder' email rendering, working even when email delivery fails and when sessions are moved to Redis. Successful compromise installs a lightweight Rust backdoor disguised as fc-cache or chronyd that beacons every 60 seconds with 48-byte UDP packets to NTP port 123 at ntp.timesync.to. A second attacker deployed a PHP web shell in product-image cache directories, hidden behind 404 responses unless a correct X-Cache-Token header is present.
