Microsoft Investigating Microsoft 365 Copilot Access Issues Under Incident CP1470554

Microsoft is investigating a Microsoft 365 Copilot access disruption tracked as incident CP1470554, with no root cause or recovery timeline published.

Microsoft is investigating reports that users cannot open Microsoft 365 Copilot or encounter errors when interacting with it, tracked under Service Health incident CP1470554 in the Microsoft 365 admin center. The company has not disclosed a root cause, affected regions, or estimated recovery time. It follows several distinct Copilot availability failures between late August and September 10, including an authentication-configuration outage and a Copilot Chat configuration fault. Microsoft says the issue is not a breach or cyberattack and directs tenant admins to the Service Health Dashboard.

Microsoft Copilot reveals secret input that allowed it to be hacked

Microsoft disclosed a hidden input in Copilot that let attackers steal passwords from users who clicked a crafted link.

Microsoft revealed that Copilot contained a secret, undocumented input parameter that allowed the assistant to be compromised. Attackers could abuse the hidden input to steal passwords when a target clicked a malicious link. The disclosure highlights hidden-parameter risks in widely deployed AI assistants.

Update your firewall rules: Teams and Copilot are changing address

Microsoft is redirecting Microsoft 365 and Teams web users to new *.cloud.microsoft domains, requiring firewall and proxy rule updates by early October.

Starting September 2026, Microsoft is redirecting M365 web users to copilot.cloud.microsoft and Teams web users to teams.cloud.microsoft, announced via MessageCenter posts MC1465764 and MC1462915. All redirects should complete by early October 2026, with limited Teams exceptions possible until December 31, 2026. Microsoft advises reviewing client, proxy, firewall, and secure web gateway configurations, and suggests using TenantRestrictions to control personal Microsoft account access instead of blocking the new Copilot address.

Detect and disrupt AI-themed attacks with Microsoft Defender

Microsoft Threat Intelligence reports criminal campaigns impersonating ChatGPT, Copilot, Claude, and DeepSeek in phishing, AiTM, and malvertising attacks reaching 100,000 emails daily.

Microsoft Threat Intelligence observed a growing set of campaigns that abuse trust in popular AI brands: a ChatGPT-themed phishing campaign sent up to 100,000 emails in one day to steal payment card data, and a Claude-themed campaign used adversary-in-the-middle techniques to harvest credentials and access tokens. Other campaigns included malvertising for a fake AI Windows plugin delivering the Vidar stealer and fraudulent DeepSeek installers distributed via GitHub. Initial access broker Storm-3075 used AI-themed malvertising to distribute payloads for multiple downstream actors, and Microsoft notes the AI services themselves were not compromised. Microsoft also details Defender protections such as Safe Links, Safe Attachments, and attack disruption against these multi-stage lures.

Chaotic Eclipse Released GreenSection, A PoC For NVIDIA Memory Corruption Zero-Day

Researcher Chaotic Eclipse released GreenSection, a PoC exploiting an unpatched out-of-bounds write in NVIDIA Windows user-mode shared memory.

Security researcher Chaotic Eclipse disclosed an out-of-bounds write in NVIDIA's Windows user-mode components, which share a global memory section (\BaseNamedObjects\{52813408-3561-4705-820a-2b3b78be92ba}) with full read/write access to all users. The PoC crashes applications running Vulkan or OpenGL; the researcher says the bug could cross user boundaries or compromise dwm.exe but did not fully assess the impact. No CVE has been assigned and no patch is mentioned. The researcher recently released zero-day PoCs against Kaspersky, Avast, and CrowdStrike Falcon.

Seattle Times and Newsday sue OpenAI and Microsoft for infringement

The Seattle Times and Newsday sued OpenAI and Microsoft for copyright infringement, seeking destruction of datasets and models trained on their journalism.

The Seattle Times and Newsday allege OpenAI used their journalism as training data without permission and that its chatbots reproduce passages of their reporting, seeking destruction of copies of their works, training datasets, and AI models that incorporate them. Microsoft is named as co-defendant because Copilot is built on OpenAI technology. The suit follows similar actions by The New York Times, Ziff Davis, Merriam-Webster, Encyclopedia Britannica, and nearly 400 local newspapers.

The September 2026 Security Update Review

ZDI's September 2026 Microsoft update review lists two already-exploited Windows EoP zero-days and dozens of critical RCEs across Office, SQL Server, and Windows services.

The review catalogs Microsoft's September 2026 fixes, marking CVE-2026-85880 (Windows ALPC) and CVE-2026-81963 (Windows Update Stack) as already exploited elevation-of-privilege issues. It also lists critical RCE flaws in Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SQL Server, Windows DNS, DHCP and Failover Cluster, plus graphics component RCEs. Azure-side fixes include Entra ID, Copilot Studio, Azure AI Language and Azure AD B2C elevation-of-privilege flaws.

Microsoft Copilot Personal Flaws Could Let One Click Exfiltrate Data From Connected Apps

Varonis discloses CoSnitch (CVE-2026-24301), three Microsoft Copilot Personal flaws enabling one-click exfiltration of connected-app data; patched August 18, 2026.

Varonis Threat Labs found that an undocumented autorun=1 parameter, paired with the q parameter, lets an attacker-supplied prompt run automatically on page load in a victim's authenticated Copilot session, then exfiltrate data from connected services such as mail, calendar, Google Drive, chat history and the memory store via Copilot's built-in URL fetch to an attacker webhook. A separate memory-poisoning path through web summarization lets a crafted page persist attacker instructions in the user's memory, surviving password changes, session revocation and device re-enrollment. Microsoft shipped patches on August 18, 2026, tracked as CVE-2026-24301, and Varonis found no evidence of in-the-wild exploitation. The flaws were found via 'meta-hacking', asking Copilot itself to reveal the autorun parameter and its protections.

Microsoft says virtually nobody was grabbing NYT articles through its chatbot

Microsoft files summary judgement briefs in NYT copyright lawsuit, arguing only 59,545 of 8.2M Copilot logs show substantial overlap with news content.

Microsoft filed new legal filings in the consolidated copyright lawsuit brought by The New York Times, authors, and publishers against Microsoft and OpenAI, arguing for summary judgement. Microsoft argues the numbers support fair use, claiming Copilot rarely reproduces substantive chunks; the Times says discovery shows Microsoft and OpenAI stole from it, and the Trump administration filed a statement of interest supporting OpenAI.

Exaforce extends its AI security tool to monitor more than just Claude

Exaforce AI Security extends beyond Claude to monitor OpenAI, Gemini, and Copilot agents using existing SOC telemetry, no new endpoint agents.

Exaforce expanded its June Claude Compliance API integration into Exaforce AI Security, adding monitoring for OpenAI, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, and OAuth-connected AI apps. The tool inventories AI agents by correlating EDR, cloud, SaaS, and model-provider logs without new gateways or endpoint agents, and can respond by revoking sessions, deactivating API keys, isolating devices, or killing agent processes via existing controls. Analysts note the agentless approach lowers friction but lacks runtime inspection and inline blocking offered by competitors such as Palo Alto Prisma AIRS, SentinelOne Prompt AI Agent Security, and CrowdStrike Falcon Guardian. A March 2026 Cloud Security Alliance survey found 68% of organizations cannot distinguish human from AI-agent activity and 74% report AI agents receive excessive access.
