Silver Fox Targets Japanese Manufacturer with 3

Chinese group Silver Fox used new vulnerable drivers and DLL side-loading to deploy ValleyRAT at a Japanese industrial manufacturer.

Cato Networks detailed a Silver Fox campaign against a Japanese industrial manufacturing organization combining new vulnerable-driver abuse (BootRepair.sys and EnPortv.sys alongside wsftprm.sys), DLL side-loading via Zeon Corporation PDF binaries, and NTDLL unhooking to deliver ValleyRAT (Winos 4.0), a Gh0st RAT variant. The chain starts with an invoice-themed phishing lure hosting attacker-controlled content on legitimate QQ and Tencent Cloud services. Shellcode is injected into svchost.exe via thread-context hijacking, and a dual watchdog design pairs payload monitoring with a scheduled-task batch script for persistence. A separate 180-day VirusTotal retrohunt found 146 Atlas RAT samples across six PDB builds, though the Silver Fox link remains circumstantial.

Seeing is Not Believing: Breaking the Physical-to-Digital Trust Boundary in Robotics

Researchers show a single ROS 2 environment variable lets attackers inject fake telemetry and hijack robots while spoofing downstream remote attestation.

A pre-built hook loaded via one modified environment variable covertly intercepts and injects both telemetry and control signals before publication in ROS 2, breaking the physical-to-digital trust boundary in multi-robot task handovers. Attackers can also distribute compromised third-party Docker containers and auxiliary tools embedding the hooks. On a physical Franka Emika arm running Secure ROS 2, the attack injects fabricated telemetry in real time with roughly 3 ms jitter and achieved an 87% success rate even against an AI-based detector. Findings were responsibly disclosed to the ROS 2 development team.

Halo-record: Open-source audit trails for AI agents

Developer Brian Kuan released halo-record, an open-source Python package creating tamper-evident, hash-chained audit logs of AI agent actions.

Halo-record is a roughly 5,300-line Python package with no runtime dependencies that records agent tool calls, model calls, data access and approvals into an append-only, hash-chained log that customers can verify without vendor trust. Adapters ingest records from OpenTelemetry spans, LangChain, MCP servers and gateway logs, with secret and PII values auto-redacted. The author plans to fund the work through a hosted witness service that stores the record count and head hash to prove completeness, citing mandates like AIUC-1, the EU AI Act, and insurers. The article cites the July Hugging Face intrusion, where an autonomous agent took roughly 17,600 actions over five days and manual reconstruction of its activity was impractical.

Are Unreachable Nodes Truly Safe? Fully Eclipsing Monero's P2P Network!

Researchers present Nyx and Moros, the first eclipse attacks against Monero nodes behind NATs, requiring no inbound access and demonstrated on mainnet.

The paper presents the first eclipse attacks tailored to unreachable Monero nodes operating behind NATs, requiring no inbound access to the victim. The attacks poison the peerlists of reachable nodes, which relay contamination to unreachable nodes' whitelists, then exploit Monero's outbound connection refresh logic to evict benign neighbors and monopolize all outbound connections. Nyx achieves a complete, persistent eclipse of long-running unreachable nodes in large-scale SEED Emulator simulations, while Moros stealthily eclipses newly joined nodes during bootstrapping and was demonstrated on the Monero mainnet. Countermeasures are proposed.
