Generative Marketing Mix Modeling: A Causal Inference Framework Linking GEO and GEM to Business Impact

Paper proposes Generative Marketing Mix Modeling to causally estimate Generative Engine Optimization and Marketing effects on business outcomes.

The authors develop GMMM, a causal inference framework for measuring how often users see and notice a firm's name in generated answers, which standard marketing data ignore. For GEO it combines repeated generated answers with question counts, shares of generative-system usage and notice probabilities; for GEM it uses sponsored placement records with notice probabilities. The framework compares expected business responses under alternative treatment sequences, establishes identification conditions, and is evaluated on simulated product-recommendation answers in English and Japanese.

Distill Globally, Adapt Locally: Reasoning Distillation and Product-Type Test-Time Training for Scalable Trade-Up Recommendation

A distillation framework compresses LLM reasoning into a 15.5M-parameter trade-up recommendation model reaching AUC 0.941 with product-type test-time training.

The paper targets trade-up recommendation, which identifies higher-quality alternatives that preserve customer purchase intent. A retrieval-augmented few-shot LLM teacher generates labels and rationales that supervise a compact embedding-pair classifier; at inference the 15.5M-parameter student uses only two precomputed 768-dimensional embeddings with no LLM calls. On 8,352 annotated pairs, label-only training scored AUC 0.912, reasoning distillation reached 0.924, and product-type test-time training lifted it to 0.941 with average precision 0.940. The distilled student is roughly 5,000x faster and 10,000x cheaper than direct LLM inference on a 100K-pair proxy catalog.

AgenticGen: Reward-Guided Agentic Video Generation for Advertising

AgenticGen applies DPO and GRPO reward-guided reasoning to ad video generation, improving TikTok CTR 2.72%, CVR 2.63%, and Advv 9.61%.

AgenticGen decomposes advertising video generation into two trainable reasoning stages, strategy selection and draft generation, supervised by online business feedback. It learns a performance-based reward from accumulated online feedback plus a rubric-based reward aligned with human quality standards, then optimizes policies with DPO followed by GRPO using process and outcome rewards. Online A/B experiments in the TikTok advertising system show CTR up 2.72%, CVR up 2.63%, and Advv up 9.61% over an SFT baseline.

The Frontier AEO Tracker: What Astra Chooses (and every other frontier model, and what you can do about it)

Latent Space launches an AEO tracker scoring 7 frontier models' product recommendations across 161 categories, revealing generational bias flips.

Latent Space built a tracker measuring Answer Engine Optimization by running 6 prompt variations across 7 frontier models with search enabled over 161 product categories, scoring first choices, alternatives, mentions, and anti-recommendations. It found 28 categories with a universally dominant primary choice and observed soft biases, such as models favoring their own lab's coding agents. Analysis of Anthropic's Sol→Astra and Opus→Fable generations showed newer models consulting fewer sources and being less likely to change answers when questions are paraphrased.

RegionFed: Federated Learning for Personalized Query Understanding in Heterogeneous Retail Environments

RegionFed is a gradient-level federated learning framework enabling personalized retail query understanding while matching centralized accuracy with differential privacy.

RegionFed is an architecture-robust federated learning framework for personalized query understanding that operates at the gradient level, using the l2 conflict between regional and global gradients to diagnose heterogeneity and control personalization. Existing parameter-level personalized FL methods collapse on transformers, falling below 10% accuracy on T5, while RegionFed deploys unchanged on T5-Small, T5-3B, RoBERTa, and CNNs. RegionFed-Meta achieves 92.27% across Amazon ESCI, Amazon Reviews, and LEAF-FEMNIST, within 0.23 percentage points of the centralized upper bound, with epsilon-approx-0.60 differential privacy.

Why User Studies and Participant Experience Reporting Matter for VR Motion Privacy?

User studies explain VR motion privacy mechanism acceptance far better than physical deviation metrics, a study of three mechanisms finds.

The paper examines how well physical deviation predicts user acceptance of VR motion privacy mechanisms compared to user studies, testing three mechanisms at five deviation levels. User studies explain substantially more variation in mechanism acceptance, though physical deviation remains significant, and prior VR experience affects acceptance. Public VR game leaderboards expose motion recordings from hundreds of thousands of users, creating identification and profiling risks. The authors recommend combining physical deviation metrics with user studies and reporting participants' prior experience.

Can We Stop The Ads? Taxonomy and Characterization of Smartphone Splash Ads and Existing Countermeasures

Study of 108 ad-defense implementations finds only one tool blocked splash-ad navigation across ten popular apps, and it required Accessibility permission.

The paper taxonomizes smartphone splash ads — full-screen ads at app launch that trick users into trigger mechanisms such as moving the phone — and analyzes 108 documented advertising defenses for deployment barriers. Many defenses require device rooting, jailbreaking, runtime code injection, or application modification; others need extra permissions, rule maintenance, compilation, or payment. In evaluating 13 configurations of 11 tools across 10 popular apps, only one prevented ad-triggered navigation across all ten apps, requiring Accessibility permission and leaving ads visible roughly one second before dismissal. Documented harms include delayed emergency response, driver distraction, and degraded accessibility for vision-impaired users.

Sure, Meta’s AI Muse works, but it sure creeps me out

Hands-on review finds Meta's Muse AI agent completes shopping and email tasks but surfaces personal Instagram API data beyond user-visible ad-topic settings.

Meta launched Muse, its first agentic AI productivity assistant, which performs tasks like shopping, email management, trip planning, media generation, and creating webpages or documents via a cloud-based virtual computer. The Verge's hands-on found it successfully deleted thousands of promotional emails and completed an Amazon purchase, but it also revealed detailed personal interests inferred from Instagram and Facebook account API data that is not visible in the apps' ad-topic settings. Meta says Muse only exchanges data needed for third-party integrations and does not share information with advertisers; the reviewer frames privacy unease as the main adoption hurdle.
