New DDRop Attack Breaks Intel TDX and AMD SEV-SNP With $159 DDR5 Device

DDRop uses a $159 DDR5 RDIMM interposer to silently drop memory writes and break Intel TDX and AMD SEV-SNP confidential VMs.

Researchers published DDRop, a physical attack built from about $159 in parts that uses a custom DDR5 RDIMM interposer to inject parity errors and silently discard selected cache-line writebacks. Intel TDX, Intel Scalable SGX, and AMD SEV-SNP are affected because they lack per-line cryptographic freshness, so processors can accept stale encrypted data as valid state. The team demonstrated deterministic plaintext copying between pages, malicious Secure EPT entry injection, forcing trust domains into debug mode, and forging attestation measurements. The attack requires privileged host control plus brief physical access, and researchers say no simple software patch exists.

There Gonna Be a Shortage of Everything

An essay argues AI capex ($1.0–1.3T in 2026) now rivals global human-benefit spending and predicts shortages spreading from DRAM/HBM to cars and appliances.

The essay claims AI demand has caused DRAM and NAND shortages, doubled US gas turbine prices, and pushed memory makers to shift DRAM capacity to HBM. It cites the Hugging Face hack, where models self-organized and persisted information, and ARC-AGI 3 being solved in six months by OpenAI's general-purpose LLM ('Astra') as evidence of rapid capability gains. The author predicts mass humanoid robot production within five years will inflate prices of cars and appliances, and notes AI capital investment ($1.0–1.3T in 2026) now matches the ~$1.3T spent globally on human-benefit research and aid.

New hardware device can RAM into encrypted memory, expose your data

Researchers built a $200 DDR5 interposer that silently drops memory writes to break TDX, SGX, and SEV-SNP confidential VM integrity, requiring physical access.

Researchers from KU Leuven, ETH Zurich, Durham University, and Google demonstrated DDRop, a hardware interposer costing under $200 that corrupts DDR5 bus commands to silently drop writes to encrypted memory, enabling replay attacks on confidential VMs. Because scalable memory encryption lacks freshness checks, protected VMs keep computing on stale attacker-selected data; on an Intel TDX server the attack forces debug mode for plaintext memory reads or forges attestation reports, succeeding in under two minutes without crashing. Intel and AMD both called the attack out of scope for their cloud threat models, with no mitigation planned, and proposed cache line versioning appears still vulnerable. The full interposer design is being released as open-source hardware.

DDRop Attack Forces Intel TDX Confidential VMs Into Debug Mode and Exposes Memory

KU Leuven and ETH Zurich researchers released DDRop PoC hardware that forces Intel TDX confidential VMs into debug mode and exposes plaintext memory.

Researchers from KU Leuven, ETH Zurich, Google, and Durham University published proof-of-concept code, hardware designs, and firmware for DDRop, a DDR5 interposer that injects parity errors to drop selected cache-line writebacks. Because Intel TDX, Intel Scalable SGX, and AMD SEV-SNP lack per-line cryptographic freshness, processors decrypt and accept stale DRAM contents as current state. The PoC flips a victim's ATTRIBUTES.DEBUG flag to enable TDX debug mode, then copies victim memory in plaintext and can forge attestation reports. Affected environments include Intel 5th- and 6th-generation Xeon Scalable with TDX; Intel says the attack falls outside its cloud-computing threat model.

Windows memory integrity switches on automatically for eligible devices in October 2026

Microsoft's Windows quality updates will automatically enable memory integrity and Virtualization-based Security on eligible devices starting October 2026.

Beginning in October 2026, Windows quality updates will automatically enable memory integrity on eligible devices and turn on Virtualization-based Security where it is not already running. Memory integrity restricts kernel-mode execution to trusted, signed code and drivers, blocking kernel compromise and rootkits. Microsoft said existing administrator decisions remain in effect, and readiness checks weigh hardware capability, compatibility, and performance. Memory integrity also underpins hotpatch updates that install without a reboot, so unprotected devices are excluded from that servicing model.

CVE-2026-82439: Apache Storm DRPC: Unauthenticated Unbounded Memory Growth in DRPC

Unauthenticated DRPC requests to Apache Storm 3.0.0 cause unbounded memory growth in the function-name queue map, enabling DoS.

CVE-2026-82439 (severity: important) affects Apache Storm DRPC (storm-server) versions 3.0.0 before 3.1.0. The DRPC server maintained a map from function name to request queue, creating an entry on first sight of a name, but no code path ever removed entries: request cleanup removed requests from queues but the queue objects and map entries persisted. An unauthenticated attacker could send requests for arbitrary function names to drive unbounded memory growth and crash the server.

CHERI-D Reincarnate: efficient multicore CHERI temporal memory safety through allocation reincarnation (draft version)

CHERI-D Reincarnate adds allocation reincarnation to CHERI, quarantining generation IDs instead of memory to cut temporal memory-safety overheads on multicore systems.

The proposal extends CHERI-D temporal memory safety by quarantining exhausted generation IDs rather than memory slots, allowing freed memory immediate reuse through allocation reincarnation. It adds coherent ID caching and multicore support connecting physical coherence events to the virtually addressed ObjID buffer. The design was implemented as a hardware-software co-design across CHERI-Toooba FPGA softcore, QEMU, LLVM/Clang, and CheriBSD. Across evaluated workloads it substantially reduces memory-sweep frequency and quarantine overhead with low performance and hardware cost.

A Three-Layer Caching Architecture for Low-Latency LLM Web Search on Commodity CPU Hardware

OreoLook's three-layer Redis caching architecture cuts redundant LLM calls and embedding work for CPU-hosted web-search answer generation.

The paper describes a three-layer caching architecture for OreoLook (formerly lixSearch), an open-source LLM answer engine: a Redis session context window with Huffman-compressed disk overflow, a semantic query cache matching rephrasings via embedding cosine similarity, and a URL embedding cache deduplicating embedding computations. Deployed on a single 8-vCPU Intel Cascade Lake server with 30 Hypercorn workers across three containerized replicas, it achieved an 89.3% aggregate Redis keyspace hit rate, 0.1 ms read latency, and 1.38 MB memory overhead. An LRU eviction daemon migrates idle sessions to disk and rehydrates them for resumption hours or days later.
