Hackers Exploit JFrog Artifactory Flaws to Bypass Authentication and Gain Admin Access

Wiz Research observes multiple attackers exploiting three JFrog Artifactory flaws, including default-configuration authentication bypass CVE-2026-82329, to gain admin access and deploy backdoors.

Attackers chain CVE-2026-42018 and CVE-2026-42016 to exchange anonymous JWTs for administrator-scoped tokens, or exploit CVE-2026-82329 directly via the registry join endpoint to obtain admin privileges under default configuration. Post-exploitation observed by Wiz includes persistent admin users created within five minutes, malicious Groovy plugins for command execution, and Rust-based backdoors dropped to /tmp, /var/tmp, and /dev/shm with C2 communications. Compromise exposes software artifacts, repository credentials, CI/CD integrations, and cluster secrets, creating supply chain risks. Fixed releases include 7.111.21, 7.117.28, 7.125.20, 7.133.29, 7.146.38, and 7.161.20.

Attackers Exploit Issabel Framework Flaw Enabling Unauthenticated OS Command Execution

Attackers actively exploit CVE-2026-89026, a hard-coded JWT key flaw enabling unauthenticated OS command execution on Issabel PBX systems.

VulnCheck reported active exploitation of CVE-2026-89026 (CVSS v3.1 9.8) in Issabel Framework, the web framework for the open-source Issabel unified communications PBX. A hard-coded HS256 JWT signing key identical across every installation lets unauthenticated attackers forge bearer tokens and abuse the /pbxapi/manager/originate endpoint, causing Asterisk to execute arbitrary OS commands as the Asterisk user. A patch replacing the hard-coded key with one stored in /etc/issabel.conf shipped August 1, 2026, and the Shadowserver Foundation first observed exploitation on September 9, 2026. Details on real-world abuse, attribution, and scale remain unknown.

Just a rumour of a bug is enough to find a security exploit these days

Commentary argues that an unverified rumor of a software bug is now enough for researchers or attackers to develop a working exploit.

A short blog note reflects on how modern exploit development has accelerated to the point that even a mere rumor of a vulnerability can be enough to locate and weaponize a bug. The piece is commentary on the current state of security research and attacker trends rather than a disclosure of a specific flaw.

Evooo1Bot Linux Botnet Exploits Known Flaws to Turn Edge Devices Into SOCKS5 Proxies

Fortinet researchers documented Evooo1Bot, a new Mirai-derived Linux botnet active since July 2026 that exploits known edge-device flaws to build SOCKS5 proxy networks.

Fortinet FortiGuard Labs identified Evooo1Bot, a previously undocumented Linux botnet built on the leaked Mirai source code, active in the wild since July 2026 and targeting internet-facing edge devices. It exploits numerous known CVEs in routers and devices from D-Link, Tenda, Telesquare, Zyxel, Hikvision, Atlassian Confluence, WSO2, TP-Link, NETGEAR, and others, delivering a bot binary via a wget.sh loader from 91.92.40.118 that clears bash history. The bot offers encrypted C2 on port 443, SSH brute-force scanning, credential sniffing, DDoS over DNS/TCP/UDP, an HTTP exploit dispatcher, and converts infected hosts into SOCKS5 proxies for anonymizing follow-on operations.

AI-Generated Exploit Scripts Target Siemens S7 PLCs in U.S. Critical Infrastructure

NSA, CISA, FBI, DOE and EPA warn that actors use AI-generated Python scripts to exploit internet-exposed Siemens S7 PLCs at U.S. critical infrastructure.

A joint advisory from NSA, CISA, FBI, DOE and EPA describes an active threat in which AI-generated exploit scripts disguised as legitimate monitoring tools target Siemens S7 Series PLCs (S7-200 through S7-1500, including F-series safety controllers). The actors use Censys and ZoomEye scanning to find internet-exposed, outdated PLCs and a custom Python script using snap7 libraries over the S7comm protocol for initial access, credential access and denial of service; no attribution was given. Targeted sectors include Critical Manufacturing, Energy, Water and Wastewater, Chemical, Food and Agriculture, and Commercial Facilities, with potential for process disruption and cascading impacts. A related Dream report details a near-autonomous AI-agent campaign (July 1-4, 2026, 12 waves) against Taiwan government entities, using Hermes and OpenClaw agents with eight parallel sub-agents to crack 85 accounts via password spraying and exfiltrate over 2,564 personnel records, SSO client secrets and database credentials.

cPanel LiteSpeed Web Server Vulnerability Allows Shared Server Users to Gain Root-Level Access

Critical LiteSpeed Enterprise flaw fixed in 6.3.7 lets low-privilege shared-hosting users escalate to root and bypass CageFS.

cPanel issued an urgent advisory for a critical privilege escalation in LiteSpeed Web Server Enterprise versions before 6.3.7, allowing a low-privilege shared-hosting account to gain root-level server control and bypass tenant isolation controls including CloudLinux CageFS. Root access would let attackers access other hosted sites, steal databases and credentials, deploy phishing pages, and install backdoors. Administrators are urged to upgrade to 6.3.7 immediately via lsup.sh and to review privileged account activity, cron jobs, SSH keys, and system binaries; no CVE identifier was published.

Attackers Exploit SharePoint Authentication Bypass After Public PoC Release

Attackers exploit SharePoint authentication bypass CVE-2026-55040 (CVSS 9.1) after Rapid7's PoC release, with 12 exploitation attempts recorded since July 19, 2026.

Microsoft patched CVE-2026-55040 in its July 2026 Patch Tuesday; the 9.1-severity flaw chains four weaknesses in SharePoint's JWT token validation pipeline, letting unauthenticated attackers forge valid JWTs and impersonate any SharePoint site user or administrator. Threat actors began exploiting the bug after Rapid7 released a Python PoC that forges tokens and enumerates domain users by SID. KEVIntel telemetry shows 12 exploitation attempts since July 19, 2026, eight of them on August 12-13 following the PoC release, originating from eight IPs across Hong Kong, Japan, the Netherlands, Taiwan, and the U.S. This is the fifth SharePoint vulnerability exploited this year, alongside CVE-2026-45659, CVE-2026-56164, CVE-2026-58644, and CVE-2026-50522.
