Cisco Secure Firewall Management Center Software Authentication Bypass Vulnerability

Cisco warns of a critical authentication bypass in Secure Firewall Management Center that lets unauthenticated attackers execute scripts and obtain root access.

A vulnerability in the web interface of Cisco Secure Firewall Management Center (FMC) Software allows an unauthenticated, remote attacker to bypass authentication and execute script files on an affected device to obtain root access to the underlying operating system. The flaw stems from an improper system process created at boot time and is triggered via crafted HTTP requests. If the FMC management interface does not have public internet access, the attack surface is limited.

cPanel ConfigServer Security & Firewall Vulnerability Allows Remote Attacker to Execute Arbitrary Commands

CSF 14.00–16.29 (CVE-2026-65638) lets unauthenticated attackers execute arbitrary commands via the MESSENGER service on cPanel/WHM servers; version 16.30 fixes it.

CVE-2026-65638 affects ConfigServer Security & Firewall (CSF) versions 14.00 through 16.29 and allows unauthenticated remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands through the MESSENGER service, running under the unprivileged CSF service account rather than root. Exploitation requires the non-default MESSENGER service to be enabled and a reCAPTCHA secret configured, reducing exposure for standard deployments. CSF 16.30 and later fix the flaw; administrators who cannot update immediately can set MESSENGER = 0 in /etc/csf/csf.conf as a temporary mitigation.

Cisco Secure Firewall Management Center Software Static Credential Vulnerability

Cisco warns of static low-privileged credentials in Secure Firewall Management Center's web interface, letting unauthenticated remote attackers log in and access sensitive data.

Cisco disclosed a vulnerability in the web interface of Secure Firewall Management Center (FMC) Software caused by the presence of static credentials for a low-privileged account. An unauthenticated remote attacker could log in to an affected device using the static account and access sensitive data within impacted systems. The attack surface is reduced when the FMC management interface does not have public internet access.

Cisco fixes vulnerability exploited to DoS its firewalls (CVE-2026-20349)

Cisco patches CVE-2026-20349, a high-severity unauthenticated DoS in ASA and FTD VPN services now added to CISA's KEV.

CVE-2026-20349 affects the Remote Access SSL VPN service in Cisco Secure Firewall ASA and FTD software, where specially crafted unauthenticated HTTP requests can cause appliances to reload, creating a denial of service. Cisco confirmed active exploitation observed in August 2026 and released hot fixes for ASA versions 9.16 through 9.24 and FTD versions 7.0 through 10.0. The flaw was added to CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog with a remediation deadline of August 14, 2026 for US civilian federal agencies. No workarounds or indicators of compromise are available.

Hackers Actively Exploiting FortiGate Firewalls to Deploy Custom Node.js Malware

Attackers actively exploit CVE-2025-25249 in FortiGate firewalls to deploy PivotC2, a Node.js RAT that decrypts VPN and admin credentials.

SOCRadar assesses with high confidence that threat actors are actively exploiting CVE-2025-25249, a CVSS 9.8 heap buffer overflow in the cw_acd daemon (CAPWAP, UDP 5246) affecting FortiOS 6.4-7.6.3 and FortiSwitchManager 7.0.x/7.2.x. Attackers deploy fortirun.bin and PivotC2, a Node.js post-exploitation framework that harvests configurations and decrypts SSL-VPN, wireless, and admin credentials using AES-256-CBC and AES-128-GCM. Over 30,000 FortiGate IPs were scanned and 178 devices compromised, including two confirmed full intrusions of US organizations with Exchange mailbox exfiltration to Wasabi storage. STRU attributes the campaign to a Russian-speaking, financially motivated cybercrime operator.

CVE-2025-25249 Exploitation Delivers PivotC2, a FortiGate Post-Exploitation RAT

Attackers exploiting CVE-2025-25249 in Fortinet FortiGate firewalls deploy PivotC2, a post-exploitation RAT, on exposed edge devices.

SOCRadar reports that exploitation of CVE-2025-25249 is being used to deploy PivotC2, a purpose-built post-exploitation RAT, on FortiGate firewall appliances. The attack follows the common pattern of compromising public-facing edge devices such as VPNs, routers, and firewalls as the initial entry point. Defenders running FortiGate appliances should prioritize patching and watch for post-exploitation activity indicating RAT deployment.

Cisco confirms CVE-2026-20079 Secure FMC flaw exploited in attacks

Cisco confirmed active exploitation of CVE-2026-20079, a CVSS 10.0 authentication bypass enabling unauthenticated root command execution in Secure FMC; CISA added it to KEV.

Cisco confirmed in August 2026 that CVE-2026-20079 (CVSS 10.0), an unauthenticated authentication bypass in Secure Firewall Management Center, is being actively exploited, allowing remote attackers to execute scripts and commands as root via crafted HTTP requests to the web interface. CISA added the flaw to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog, ordering federal civilian agencies to patch by September 12, 2026. Shared IOCs, identical hot fixes, and a July 23 log entry suggest CVE-2026-20079 was used alongside the separately exploited static-credential flaw CVE-2026-20316 in the same attacks. Cisco released patches and cloud fixes, warns hot fixes do not remediate already-compromised devices, and says there are no workarounds.

Hackers Exploit FortiGate SSL-VPN Flaw to Breach Thai ISP and Deploy MeshCentral Backdoor

Threat actors exploited FortiOS SSL-VPN flaw CVE-2024-21762 to breach Thai ISP Triple T Broadband, gaining root-level persistence via MeshCentral agents.

Attackers exploited CVE-2024-21762, an out-of-bounds write enabling unauthenticated RCE in FortiOS SSL-VPN, against Triple T Broadband's FortiGate 60F at mail.3bb.co.th, launching a Node.js reverse shell via a ROP payload. Hunt.io uncovered the operation through an exposed staging directory at 92.63.180[.]133:8888 containing 298 files of exploits, credential-harvesting scripts, session cookies, and a device inventory. Post-compromise, the actors deployed MeshCentral agents (device group TH-3BB, C2 www.ayuthayatech.com) running as root, plus a hidden SUID backdoor at /usr/local/bin/.rc, and also targeted an internal Pentaho/Tomcat server with Ghostcat (CVE-2020-1938). A cleanup script removed logs, shell histories, and web shells while deliberately preserving the MeshCentral agent and SUID backdoor.
