Switzerland's Federal Government Is Replacing Microsoft on 3k Computers

Switzerland's Federal Chancellery launched a pilot replacing Microsoft 365 with open-source openDesk on 3,000 federal workstations by end of 2027.

Switzerland launched a CHF 9 million pilot to migrate 3,000 federal workstations (about 7% of the federal workforce) from Microsoft 365 to the German open-source openDesk suite, targeting completion by end of 2027. The move follows a successful 172-employee proof of concept (PoC BOSS) and the 2024 EMBAG open-source law, driven by digital sovereignty concerns about foreign access to Swiss government data. The Swiss Army's Cyber Command plans a faster migration, replacing Microsoft 365 with openDesk by October 2026, while Microsoft is investing over CHF 325 million in Swiss AI and cloud infrastructure.

Microsoft Investigating Microsoft 365 Copilot Access Issues Under Incident CP1470554

Microsoft is investigating a Microsoft 365 Copilot access disruption tracked as incident CP1470554, with no root cause or recovery timeline published.

Microsoft is investigating reports that users cannot open Microsoft 365 Copilot or encounter errors when interacting with it, tracked under Service Health incident CP1470554 in the Microsoft 365 admin center. The company has not disclosed a root cause, affected regions, or estimated recovery time. It follows several distinct Copilot availability failures between late August and September 10, including an authentication-configuration outage and a Copilot Chat configuration fault. Microsoft says the issue is not a breach or cyberattack and directs tenant admins to the Service Health Dashboard.

Hackers Use Passkey-Themed Phishing to Hijack Microsoft 365 Accounts and Steal Cloud Data

Microsoft reports passkey-themed phishing campaigns hijacking Microsoft 365 accounts via AiTM and device-code flows, then exfiltrating cloud data.

Microsoft researchers identified passkey-themed phishing across cloud intrusions observed since May 2026, where callers posing as IT support direct victims to lookalike sign-in pages. The flows include adversary-in-the-middle phishing and device-code authentication, letting attackers capture usable sessions even when MFA succeeds, followed by rogue MFA registration for persistence. Attackers enumerate tenants via Microsoft Graph and collect SharePoint, OneDrive, and Exchange data at rates below 1,000 items per hour; lure domains include passkeyhelpdesk.com and setupmypasskey.com.

Microsoft’s Patching

Microsoft's September Patch Tuesday fixes a record 972 vulnerabilities, 112 rated critical, amid AI-accelerated vulnerability discovery.

Microsoft's September 2026 Patch Tuesday patches a record ~972 vulnerabilities, 112 rated critical, following records of 570 two months ago and ~620 last month. Schneier attributes the surge to AI-powered vulnerability finding, citing an open letter from OpenAI, Anthropic, AWS, Google, Microsoft and roughly 100 organizations warning of an AI-enabled attack tsunami. He predicts AIs will reverse-engineer exploits from patches, weaponizing flaws immediately upon release and shrinking the patch window to 'immediately.'

AD Rights Management Service (Part 1): Architecture, Deprecation, and Reconnaissance

Huntress maps AD RMS architecture and recon paths, setting up an offline key-extraction attack against its unrotatable 255-year root key.

Huntress's multi-part research examines Active Directory Rights Management Services, Microsoft's enterprise DRM role that still ships in Windows Server 2025 despite migration guidance favoring Azure Information Protection. Part 1 covers the trust model and how an ordinary domain account can locate RMS clusters and read rights-policy templates. Part 2 will detail four independent paths for extracting the Server Licensor Certificate (SLC) private key via service-group membership and the configuration database, enabling fully offline decryption of protected documents. The SLC certificate is valid from 2002 to 2258 and has no key-rotation mechanism, so a stolen key decrypts protected content indefinitely.
